    Newbie food question..

Thanks for such quick replies - now its as clear as mud  I may try to make some of the homemade food, I'm always up for some DIY projects! I do have a bit of algea growth on the live rock and several feather dusters. When I do get a shrimp are the dusters going to be safe?

    Newbie food question..

I have a new 29 gal tank with 40# of LR (lr.com) and a 3" deep sand bed - I've finished my cycle (AM 0, 'ite 0, 'ate 10). I'm going to start with a clean up crew consisting of: 1- Pepermint shrimp 5- Scarlet hermit 5- Blue hermit 2- Turbos My question is what do I feed these guys - the choice...

    Plumbing question

Good idea on the check valve for the return line. The two valves on the pump return would be for flow control, I could reduce the flow to the tank and open the valve for the return to the sump and not increase the back pressure on the pump too much. As for the UV, it would not be on the drain...

    Plumbing question

Hi - I will be setting up a 29 gal tank with a 10 gal as a sump. I purchased a Mag 7 pump a a real good price and realize that it may be a bit of overkill for a 29 gal tank. As you can see from the drawing (a paint quickie) I have a return line going back to the sump, I thought that would keep...

    Stainless Steel

Hi- I was wondering if it would be OK to attach some rubber feet using some stainless steel screws to the pump that is in my sump?

R/O Water, good enough to drink?

I've been drinking my RO/DI water for months, tastes fine to me. Is there something I need to know about the DI portion of the filter?

    2 quick questions!

    1. Yeah the curing process can be a bit smelly, I just cured 40# of Keys rock from LR.com in the basement. I thought my wife was gonna kill me! 8O But the smell only lasted about three or four days. 2. Check out eBay. I bought a 110GPD RO/DI with storage tank from FiltersDirect for $110.00 +...

EBay RO/DI Units, Looking for Feedback

I got the 110GPD FilterDirect RO/DI unit from eBay. Easy to install and it seems to work fine. I'm thinking about getting a TDS meter to monitor the performance. Anyone use one? Any recommendations.

    29 gal tank lighting

How much lighting do I need for a 29 gal FOWLR, is 72w too much. I am thinking about adding an anemone after the tank has been established for a few months. Thanks

    UV Sterilizer...

Being new to SW, I was wondering if using a UV unit or an Ozone generator is worth the additional cost. Do they really make that much of a difference? Either way it will be for a 125gal FOWLR tank. Thanks

    Homemade Wet/Dry...

I'm thinking of building my own wet/dry filter, seems rather easy. All one would need is a large bin for a sump and a smaller bin for the bio filter, I figure for a 100gal tank I would need an 8gal bio bin, a protein skimmer in the sump and that would be enough. Any one done this, is it worth it?

    Remote wet/dry..

I see the confusion, the wet/dry and tank will both be in the basement. Also I found some information about calculating head pressure at the web site for Dolphin pumps.

    Remote wet/dry..

Short ceiling? The filter will be sitting on the floor, and the discharge will be at the top of the tank, approx. 4-5' above the floor level. Does horizontal distance and plumbing diameter have any impact on head pressure calculations?

    Remote wet/dry..

I don't have anything right now, I'm looking at the AquaClear Pro 200 with a pair of CAP 2200 pumps. The floor is level and the tank return would be at a height of about 5'. Heat shouldn't be an issue. Thanks.

    Remote wet/dry..

Hi - I'm new to the hobby of aquariums. I am interested in setting up a FOWLR tank (90-180 gal range). My first question is regarding the location of the wet/dry filter, In my basement, the location I have chosen backs up to my laundry room, can I locate it there? It would be about 3-5' from...
