    Sick Colt Coral

It's been 2 months and the colt coral is still hanging on. This weekend, I propagated by cutting 2 buds and they seem to be doing well...If it's the clown that's irritating it, maybe the propagated buds will thrive...

    Sick Maxima Clam

Will check Mg and alk...Coral beauty was good with it and the coral banded shrimp only picked at the shell once in awhile.

    Sick Maxima Clam

110W high output compac with Coralife bulbs (50% super daylight 10,000k and 50% actinic 03 blue). The guy at the LFS said that was what they used...

    Sick Maxima Clam

I have a 2" maxima clam that has been healthy and responsive in the last month since I got it. This afternoon, it started to shrivel and detach from its shell. I think it's dead...Hermit crabs are honing in on it. None of the fish ever touched it and it was not near the anemone. What could...

    Sick Colt Coral

I thought the clown would be a problem, but she's been hosting in the coral for about 8 months, spending most of the day in it. The coral was always fully extended while my clown was in it, never seemed to mind. Until 2 weeks ago, I was worried that the coral was out-growing the tank! I'm so...

    Sick Colt Coral

It's been about 2 weeks and the colt coral still looks miserable. Everything else in the tank is fine...I'm certain the colt coral isn't dead (not decaying or detaching) and it is still hosting my oscellaris, but I'm at a loss for what to do. Water chemistry is stable and where it is supposed...

    Sick Colt Coral

In 12 hours, my Colt coral went from normal to sick - looked a bit wilted last night and was completely shrivelled this morning. Water is pristine and I can't figure out why it looks sick. I've had it for a year, it's well-established, and hosts my oscellaris clown. Until yesterday, it has...

Oscellaris Clown hosted by Colt Coral

The colt coral was added long after the anemone and the clowns were added just before the anemone. I suppose the hosting behavior is a learned thing and since the clowns are tank-raised, they've never been taught how to hang out in anemones. I'm just bummed that the one clown "discovered" the...

Oscellaris Clown hosted by Colt Coral

I have a pair of tank-raised Oscellaris clowns that are totally uninterested in a beautiful rose anemone. Suddenly, my female has been in the colt coral and she rarely leaves...colt coral doesn't seem to mind. Is this OK? Will she eventually "discover" the anemone?

    Starfish's Behavior Change...

I've had a sand-sifting starfish for 3 months and it has always spent all its time roving around the bottom, burying itself etc. This week, it has suddenly started to climb the walls. Is this normal behavior? Something to worry about? Water is pristine, no new inhabitants or corals.

    Water for topping off...

The description grom the Snot Algae excerpt tells me that my problem is not dinoflagellates (luckily). The algae looks like slime, but doesn't feel like it. It is a thick, carpet like layer of algae (some brown, some red, some green). When I vacuum it, it comes off in chunks, not snot like...

Thanks Billy Z. I'll email them and let you know what they say... PS I DO live in Ontario!

    Water for topping off...

I have way too much brown algae (the slimy looking kind) which is probably from excess phosphates in the water. I am told that using RO water to top off the tank will help this. Is Culligan bottled water RO water? Their website talks about water softeners (bad), but doesn't specify what is in...

    Next fish to add?

THANKS! Thanks to all who gave valuable advice! I will do more research to see what would be the best addition. I do wish I had a bigger tank than a 45gallon, but hafta learn on something! I'll definitely be back for more advice... Thanks again!

    Next fish to add?

I have a coral beauty, cleaner wrasse, pair of ocellaris clowns in a 45 gallon. Any ideas regarding what fish I can add now? I would love a small yellow tang, but consensus seems to be that they are aggressive and will chase all other fish around  . I have heard that some have had...

    Cleaner wrasse disappeared.

My cleaner wrasse has a prompt "bedtime" of 11:30pm when it finds tight nook in my LR. I was worried when it totally disappeared the first night I got it, but by 7am it was out and about. I know it sleeps in the LR b/c I picked up a piece and it was staring back at me. Hope you find yours!

    Rose Anemone - Normal behavior?

I've had a Rose anemone for a week (4" diameter). Water is mature and pristine. During the day, it looks great (well-adhered, turgid and responsive to surroundings). Once lights turn off, the anemone slowly goes flacid, shrinks, rolls up (1 1/2" ball) and moves to a tight spot between some...

Clown fish - How many in a tank?

I have a pair of ocellaris clown (tank-raised) in a 45gallon reef tank. Is it feasible to add a 3rd clown (same of different species)? I have a rose anemone that a wild-caught specimen could take refuge in since the tank raised pair are totally uninterested in it. I'm really looking for a...
