    Less light is better?

OMGoodness! That's an awesome explanation, thank you. To be honest, I don't know why my lights work, they just do, so I'm happy with them lol. But because I don't know why they work I can't explain it to someone who might be asking questions. So again, thank you!!!!!

    Less light is better?

Ohhhh I'm new to it too. Though I had a few plants in the September/October time frame I didn't switch to dirt till November. I got this light in late november. I JUST figured out the bulbs and bla bla bla lol.

    Less light is better?

You're the second person to ask me if they're blue, they're not. They're very bright but they have no blue to them. I bought the fixture from an individual and they were already in it. They're sylvania, and they're on the sylvania website. I don't know what store I'd get them from lol.

    Less light is better?

I've had plants in this tank since late September. I converted to a dirt substrate the beginning I November. I've done a few water changes, I can't say how much. I drain and fill at the same time. In a planted tank you're not really suppose to do water changes lol. Once it gets completely...

    Less light is better?

This is my tank on October 30 and again on December 27th. Note: I've taken plants out but haven't added any. What I have done is trimmed so much new growth that the trimmings are what has filled my tank. Ashley, I have my lights on for 4 hours, off 4 hours then on for 6 hours. Diana Walstad...

    Less light is better?

Yes, 10 hours of light per day. I've not had algae issues. Diana Walstad says if your plants are doing good they'll out compete the algae for nutrients...maybe that's happening, I dunno. All I know is that I've not had that first algae bloom. (knock on wood!)

    Frontosa

It's probably Burundi ;) Either way...frontosas are awesome fish! Enjoy your little guy and be sure to give him/her plenty of growing room.

    Frontosa

The hump isn't really an age or sex thing. Though it true that males are more likely to have a hump that's not ALWAYS the case. I have males (and a female) that started developing it at around a year and I have others that didn't start till around two years old. It depends on the fish. Feed...

    Frontosa

It's probably Burundi. Burundi are most common in pet stores and since they breed easily there are a lot in the hobby. Usually the other variants are a little more expensive.

    Frontosa

The type you have depends on the collection point. Some have more blue, some are black and white with touch of blue. Some have a hint of gold in their top fin. Where did you get yours?

    Frontosa

One of my Burundi at about a year old. He's already developing his bump yet far from sexual maturity. I can post more recent pics of my dim male if y'all would like.

    Frontosa

Having six stripes doesn't make it a Burundi. In fact, most frontosas have six stripes. There is one that has seven and I've seen five stripe, though I don't know if five stripes is natural. All others are six stripe.

    55g dirted tank build advice

I used miracle grow organic potting mix from Home Depot for like $8/50lb bag. My 55g took less than 2 bags. My biggest point of advice, make sure there is NO water AT ALL in the tank when you add the dirt! I had about half an inch of water in mine and it was a mess!!! Had to take everything out...

    jewel cichlid

Are they dull and washed out? If so, it looks like they're being picked on. If they were breeding, they'd be in full glorious breeding colors.
  25. Lady_Alia

    Frontosa

Frontosa females can get a hump just as large as a males. Mine started developing theirs at about 3". Frontosas are slow growers, except in the first few years, in which they grow quite rapidly.
