    Spidey's 30G Shallow Reef

Update 11/28/2020 - Got an Anemone, got over some of the issues I've made it through the issues I was having. I did some proactive things to help fight off the dinos. I also went through a bout of green hair algae, then cyano. Thankfully things are nice and clean. The cycle went from snot like...

    Spidey's 30G Shallow Reef

Even though my no3 and po4 are down near 0? I do have some chemiclean I could throw at it as a first measure though. The tank has a ton of flow as it is at the moment I feel - maybe I could throw another small powerhead in there. One of the reasons I am leaning toward dinos is because the way...

    Spidey's 30G Shallow Reef

So it is time for an update. Unfortunately I find myself fighting back dinos. What I initially thought was cyano, turned out to be dinos I presume. I would go through the entire process of getting a microscope and trying to confirm, but at this point I am just going to go the route of the...

    Spidey's 30G Shallow Reef

I am holding off on getting it at the moment. For now, I think I have the lights tuned to where I like them and I have a decent formula setup for figuring out the PAR at certain points. I may get the Seneye for the spectrum reading it gives though. I've always been curious what mine looks like...

    Spidey's 30G Shallow Reef

Gotcha - makes sense. Did you get the whole webserver version? I was messing around with the idea of getting it but for the webserver it seems more expensive than it's worth. If anything, $200 for a PAR meter is worth it to me lol.

    Spidey's 30G Shallow Reef

Did you use it for all the features? Or was it solely for the PAR meter?

It also looks like you may need more rock.. To keep a successful SPS reef you will need great filtration - with that little rock, there will be few places for beneficial bacteria to grow.

Filter media to avoid with cycling?

Check out the video of how he suggests to use it. Long story short, you want the most surface area available to you when the bacteria is colonizing the tank. Any sort of pre-filter (filter floss or filter socks) should be removed since those are things that you will be changing out during...

This sounds like a nice sized tank. Please post some pictures if you have any. I agree yellow tangs can get stressed if not in a longer tank. That being said, some people buy them small with the intention of rehoming them to a larger system or upgrading their current setup. Probably not the...

    Spidey's 30G Shallow Reef

I am really noticing that LEDs in general are much stronger than they look. Eyes really aren't a good indicator on how "strong" the lights are since our eyes auto adjust. Renting a PAR meter was a great investment, these corals would have been fried if I were judging off my eyes. I am even...

    Aquascaping Established Tank

If you were stirring everything up, might want to plan a large water change in case the levels got thrown out of whack. Pics of the new layout?

    My New 60 Gallon Setup

Looks good. That first clownfish photo almost fooled me, looked like it was out in the open ocean lol. How long has the tank been running?

    Spidey's 30G Shallow Reef

It worked surprisingly well. Considering the light was a lot stronger than I knew - without it I would have been frying corals left and right lol. In fact, the preset light schedule the lights have in their program would have melted a bunch of my corals. Would have been around 400-500 PAR on...

    Spidey's 30G Shallow Reef

So, some of the issues I've had so far are chalked up to not knowing the intensity of this light. I've bleached a couple SPS frags (nothing has died yet thankfully). This led to me renting a PAR meter from BRS and doing some tests on the light. This was the grid/location of the par...

    Spidey's 30G Shallow Reef

Hey all, I am back in the hobby. Been a while since I've been around, but I hope to bump into a bunch of people I knew from when I was in. For a little background, my first tank was probably 12 years ago - started with a 55g reef tank that my dad got me as a gift. I had 0 clue what I was doing...

    Bry's 83 Rimless Reef

Thanks. Lol I se mine maybe like once every few days. Really cool to watch it eat. Thanks man. Never heard it being a fav :D Thank you. Lights so far are doing well. I have decent growth and I love the color. I am debating on adding 1x54w Fiji Purp to the mix. I am curious to see if itll...

    Bry's 83 Rimless Reef

Thanks, I will have to check em out. With that said here are some updated shots of the tank and a few new corals. Here is a rainbow mille I picked up at a friends house a few weeks ago. The color is unreal in person. Pink lemonade frag I got today so polyps really aren't out. Superman...

    Bry's 83 Rimless Reef

So far they grow easy corals great. I am starting to introduce the harder stuff now. I have a couple pearlberries and a few other milles/other acros that I am testing the light out with now. So far so good though. I have them at around 60%white 100% blues, so maybe I need to start bumping it up...

Tank has been good. No big hiccups. I have been in and out of the hosp for the last few weeks with this bad pain in my side, so I haven't been able to do much. I did slice the nem in half though. Here are some updated shots of the reef.
