Haven't been around in a while...tank pretty much crashed. Built a whole new system

Well, title pretty much says it all. I've been really busy at work this summer, so the maintenance on the 28 nano seriously suffered. On top of that, I got an infestation of these tiny little black snails that I couldn't get rid of for the life of me..... no matter how many I picked out, they...

    Dependable sump return pump

I've been piecing together stuff to build myself a frag/prop tank, and I just scored an unused custom 25 gallon main tank (gonna drill it), and am going to use a spare 20g long as a sump. What is going to be a good, dependable submerged return pump? (emphasis on dependable!!!) I have some...

    Blue-polyp birdsnest taking off

Picked this little guy up at a frag swap for $10 about 6 weeks ago..... he just started popping new tips last week.

    Tough one

I recently traded frags with a local club member, which we do for "banking". We trade corals with others, and in case of a tank crash, it's agreed upon that you can go back to those people and get free frags back to re-populate your tank....... I gave a guy a piece of my ORA German Blue polyp M...

My Sour Apple (Green tipped) birdsnest after just one month!!

Here's 2 shots of my birdsnest. First is the day after I brought him home exactly one month ago & one from today. This stuff is amazing.... if you want a great beginner Acro, this is one to consider. Pictures do not do the colors justice.... Though, between it & the M. Digitatas, they really...

Question for anyone using BRS dosing pumps.

I've been dosing 2-part for better than a month now, and have really noticed a difference in my M. digitatas & birdsnest, but got really tired of hand dosing 3 times a day, so I finally broke down & picked up a pair of BRS dosing pumps. I noticed in their specs a maximum of a 20ft head...

BRS Bulk Buy shipment arrived... gotta love the Man in Brown

Got my BRS Bulk Buy shipment today....:thumb: Picked up a 150gpd RO upgrade, a dual canister DI system to handle the extra flow (BONUS - didn't realize it came pre-packed with resin :D), a dual digital TDS meter, and a bulk bag of DI resin.

Time lapse of green trumpet LPS eating dinner

Not the greatest quality.... just a quick set-up of my metallic green trumpet eatng some dinner. The pumps were shut off, so all the movement is the coral itself. This is about an hour's worth of digestion. Trumpet Eating - YouTube

    New coral acquisitions

Got back from the CORA frag swap meet today with a nice little haul. 6 ricordeas, 3 zoas, 2 monti digis (my first SPS!!), and an acan lord..... 12 nice pieces for $80, average of less than $7 each!!

    Bulk Reef Group Buy sticky??

Instead of having to chase down the Bulk Reef group buy threads, can we set up a sticky where people can post a "sign me up" response who want to particpate each time. People can still start their announcement threads for others who want to join in, but they can go to that sticky and PM everyone...

    Juvenile feather duster??

Found this little guy growing on the side of one of my paly frags. It's tiny, considering the paly to the left of it is maybe 1/4" to 3/8" across. If you touch the palys, they kinda close up in slow motion, but this thing retracts instantly........ Looks like a feather duster, just seeking...

    Wanting to try M. digitata

I know the Montiporas are on the easier end of the SPS's, but it's still an SPS.....how picky are the digitatas to water quality compared to other SPS's? My 28 Nano (89w LED w/Tunze 9002 skimmer) has been up & running for a few months now, and I'll probably wait a little while longer to allow...

Ohio frag swap meet - Sept 16th in Columbus

Since we Ohioans don't really know where the heck we belong, I'm posting this in both the Northeast & Midwest sections since I see Ohio posts in both. I have asked & received permission from AA to post this (Thank You!). I have no affiliation with this, just wanted to let you guys know about...

Let's see who get's the reference.....

I scored a pretty good haul of stuff for my nano reef from a local guy who's wife is in the Air Force. She just got orders to move, and they are having to tear down their 125g reef..... One of the things I got was an Ocellaris clown, and my #1 stipulation to my wife was that it absolutely will...

    Polyp ID

This was on the base rock of a cauliflower I picked up. http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f101/jbj-28g-nano-build-214432-6.html#post2072002 The guy's tank had a bunch of this on his rock.... looked like beautiful blue carpet. He said it wasn't invasive. If he put down a frag of something...

    Acans in a new aquarium?

Tank is still cycling, in the meantime I've been reading until my eyes bleed..... The question I have is regarding putting an Acan into a brand new tank. Almost everywhere you read, it's specifically mentioned that SPS should be added to a "well established" aquarium, but you don't see that...

Nitrites on 2nd day of cycle???

I know.... this is technically a double post since I'm linking to my own build thread, but a lot more people troll this section than the Nano section. If the forum gods get angry, I'm sure I'll find out....:hide: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f101/jbj-28g-nano-build-214432.html As...

28g Nano reef - questions on stocking order

I've got my 28g nano cycle started, but have a few questions for later down the road.... I know what I want to do, but am looking for some guidance on what order to do it in. I've run FOWLR's, so I'm not new to salt, but this will be my first attempt at keeping a reef. Stocking plan is to...

    JBJ 28g Nano build

Up & running..... Picked up my 89w LED Nano last weekend for my birthday, and got it set up today. Will be getting sand & rock on Thursday, and after that settles, I'll get a shrimp in there on Friday. Got my Refractometer, API marine & reef test kits on hand, and can't wait to get...

    Real Reef vs live rock?

Title pretty much explains the question..... I've had a FOWLR, but this will be my first run at corals, so there will be a bunch of questions. Just picked up a 28g JBJ 89w LED Nano, and I'm probably going to get started on the cycle next week. LFS has both live rock and the artificial "Real...

    Birthday score!!!! JBJ 28g

Got up this morning another year older. Did my usual routine.... cup of coffee, lit a smoke, got the dogs outside, computer firing up..... Sat down & did my morning email, Ebay, & Craigslist check, and there it was..... Got ahold of the guy right away, and this is what he had listed for $650...

    Just another new guy.

Been out of fish for about 20 years due to marriage, kids, and way too many other money pit hobbies.... Now that the kid is grown & headed off to boot camp, I've decided to get back into my long-lost love. Currently have a 29g community tank up running, and am definitely catching...
