Great schooling fish. The males really colour up great in the warmer months, feeding them some live food helps with the colour. Nice find :thumb:

Hi Adcoffman, I live in Australia and have rainbows everywhere! There are alot of varieties, so can get confusing. As juveniles or when stressed, its hard to ID them. Here is a link to a free ebook on Rainbows, written by Adrian Tappin - its one of the best books ive found thats available...

Thanks:) I use a sanding sealer made by 'UBeaut' which is a shellac based sealer. Its then sanded some more and finished with Danish Oil which is a mix of oils and polyurathaine. End up with a semi gloss protective finish :thumb:

Finished the tank stand today, Will have to let the finish cure a little before putting the tank on it but wont be long now. Keen to start cycling the water and getting the tank layout started. Used some blocks for the corners of the frame. Its pretty sturdy and i dont think ill get any...

If you can find a hydraulic table(or similar), really should not be too hard. Just design the whole thing around the hydraulics. The table frame i made was welded together, just a wood top:) No need for counter weights, the hydraulics is way strong enough. Even though it was lifting 400kg...

You can pick up second hand industrial hydrolic tables very cheap, just pullout and use the hydraulics from that. Have done this for DIY hydraulic tables in my shed for working with heavy projects with great success. The hydraulics out of these kind of tables sound like they will work perfectly...

Gday again :) Well have done a bit more work on the tank stand :D Have finally glued up the frame. Due to a lack of clamps I have to do the glue up in 3 sections but it turned out great. To give some of you and idea of the joinery used, ill attach a pic of the frame prior to the glue up, so...

You could line up the extra 2 cross beams to fit right under where your 55g will be. As long as the beams are supported(not just nailed onto the frame) should be fine. Maybe you can show us a sketch up of what your talking about:)
