Clown Plecos don't get big at all, I have one in my 15 gallon and it's only 3 inches, probably not even that. They're better than otos at gettin to the algae and I think they're more attractive. Their scientific name is "peckoltia vittata" or somethin like that. And here's a question for anyone...

I recommend this chemical called "AlgaeFix". It works as long as you read the instructions and you still need to scrape the algae off the glass. I use a toothbrush to clean off the glass even though it's a little more work but you get into tighter spaces. Live plants can help against algae too...

If I could, I would redo my aquarium with a pair of Rams, a butterfly fish (hopefully it wouldnt get out), the frog, algae eating shrimp, and some time of schooling fish that is too big for the butterfly fish's mouth.

Thank you oscarbreeder on your help, I'm glad to know there's something else out there. Now after reading meanfish's post I'm curious too about how to exactly use the vinegar-water solution. After this thread is all over I'm going straight to my aquarium hoods for some major cleaning.

Have I used the water and vinegar solution? No. I've only ever used this aquarium friendly cleaner called "Safe & Easy" made by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals, INC. Is the vinegar and water solution safe for aquariums if I wash the hell outta the hood afterwards? Or am I good with what I already have...

Can I use Lime-Away on an already well established aquarium? There's a lot of junk stuck to the hood of my aquariums that I can't get off, so as long as I really wash Lime-Away off will I be able to use it?

I have this same problem and I've started removing plants all over but it spreads so quickly, there's got to be some way to clean this algae out
