My penguin bio filter died so I had to purchase a new one. I put filter media from the old in the new to keep the beneficial bacteria in the tank. Question is how long should I leave the old filter media in so the bacteria can be good the new filter? I really don't want to lose any fish because...
Lol ya they can be entertaining! I'm not sure on the pots maybe someone else will know. My Pleco is about 8 inches maybe! He's just so big and gets spooked easily so knock anything and everything over lol I love watching my Chinese algae eaters. They have little suckers on there faces too. I...
if your looking for fish to control the algae then the chinese algae eaters, flag fish and siamese algae eaters are the way to go and don't eat the plants. My pleco uproots everything!!
Bettas are not community fish! Danios are great to watch, always on the go and wish about mid level in the tank or higher. I had some once upon a time by my rosy barbs ate them when I was on vacation lol
thanks so much I thought they were getting eaten for a second there lol I still can't believe they had fry! The guy I got them from had about 20-30 of them in a 10 g tank and wanted me to take more!! I told him 2 was just fine by me!! So glad I trusted my instincts haha
I picked up a couple of free convict cichlids, maybe 2 weeks ago. One is pink and the other has black and grey stripes. I just looked into the tank(20g by themselves) and there is swimming fry!!! I have no idea what to do. Should I leave them and let the parents(I assume) protect them or is...
I have an angelfish, they told me they are hard to keep but I haven't had any problems. And they are interesting to watch too, kind of have their own personality lol
Ok my 20g is just painted black on 3 sides, nothing with a design to it. I bought it used that way. But it's so dark! And I think of oceans being bright and sunny! Lol I have 6 different fish that eat every kind of algae because I like it by the window haha! My 10 g has a pet store bought...
Thank your your input. Next time I'm in town I'm going to stop in at my LPS and see about getting either the siamese algae eater or the American flag fish if possible. There are 2 stores but both 45-50 away so not someplace I can just drop in unfortunately. And I put in the peroxide so I'll post...
I put in the peroxide so I'll see if it helps. I wish my LFS wasn't 45min away or I would have stopped in to look for that Excel stuff and a new fish lol
Ok I just read that putting 1ml per 5 gallons of hydrogen peroxide will clear up my black algae. It says that it won't harm my fish if I dose it right. Anyone ever hear of this?
Seem to have black algae growing in my tank. I had 2 Chinese algae eaters in my tank(one gold one brown) and the brown guy use to eat it but the gold one isn't??? I put the brown one in a different tank over 2 months ago
How often are you feeding them? And how often are you doing water changes? Goldfish are very dirty fish and should only be fed every other day, at least that's what the LPS told me when I kept them.
Good luck!! I hope someone has the answer. Maybe it is just from rubbing on something. I've never noticed it on mine before either but it sorta makes sense lol
