Buffy's 1st Ever SW Build - Reef Tank

Lol I hear you. There is a big frag meeting on Atlanta this weekend. I really want to go, but I hate to drive in ATL and, well, I've been spending way too much on my fish and corals. :-P

    Caitlynn's 75 gallon reef build!

Well, they may not be the flashiest thing in your tank, but they don't cost a fortune, and mine do come out. If you really want the nice ones, get a fire shrimp and a couple cleaners. I might get another fire shrimp now that I have a bigger tank :-)

    Caitlynn's 75 gallon reef build!

The peppermint shrimp are smaller, more translucent, light pink, and cheaper. The fire shrimp has bright white legs as antennas. It's body is a deep solid red. I had one, but rarely saw it. I'd suggest some peppermint shrimp and some cleaner shrimp. They seen to be out more, and they'll eat out...

    Australian Flowerpot

Cool, thanks! I couldn't figure it out as it doesn't have stalks like all the other flowerpots I've seen. Any good advice on how to keep it alive?

    Salt Water Rookie

Yes, when you physically remove water from your tank you also remove salt since it is dissolved in the water. You need to top off with ro/di water for anything that evaporates as you only use pure water this way and no salt. If you top off with saltwater you will end up with a too high...

    Australian Flowerpot

I've been told that this is an Australian flowerpot, however, I have not been able to find anything to confirm that. The "flowers" are not on stalks but sit closely on the rock. They are super fluorescent and the brightest thing in my tank. Any ideas???

    Caitlynn's 75 gallon reef build!

You could always just store the tank somewhere. Fill it up with summer clothes or something. Have a sponge filter run in your sump and the other misc item ready, then when/if you need your QT you can set it up with water, the small sponge filter and everything.

    frustrating canister filter - microbubbles

I just removed my canister filter from a 28 gallon. So far the protein skimmer, LR, and a hob filter with gac is doing the job.

    Dottyback puesdo

Is it still there? My dottyback had a white dot, but it turned out to be a piece of substrate (probably with some snail slime on) that got kicked up during a water change.

+1. Check with your water company, but you may just want to go with rodi water to play it safe. The raw shrimp method is a great way to cycle your tank. Add your substrate, BS, LR, and water. Dump the shrimp in and start testing your water for ammonia after a couple of days. When the ammonia...

    Caitlynn's 75 gallon reef build!

How long do you usually QT new fish for? With my new 40 breeder i want to add a couple new fish, but I don't want to risk my entire tank getting sick.

    Trine's 40 Gallon Build

I know. I got all excited when I saw it. I just found this place. It is a one man shop started by a local guy who cleans tanks for a living, and he started this place mostly with frags from his own tanks. I like to support him rather than the lfs. Of course, now I have to figure out what new...

Three, maybe four. They'll also clean each other and sometimes the bottom part of the tank and rocks.

Tiger striped conchs are fabulous!! I have two and can highly recommend them. Plus they are fun to look at with everything hiding except for their eyeballs :-)
