    Betta with dropsy

You're absolutely right...there's nothing worse than sitting around knowing he's in misery, and you can't help :( So I am thankful it was speedy for him in that respect. He's burried now, hanging out with all the other fighting fish in betta heaven. Thanks again :(

    Betta with dropsy

Too late.. I was literally about to leave the house to pick up some peas at Target, when I noticed he was gone. It's mind boggling...he was floating around near the surface to get air just 20 minutes ago. Thanks so much for your advice, though. You're always very helpful.

    Betta with dropsy

I'm pretty sure my little betta, Ziggy, has dropsy. I woke up this morning and his belly was swollen, but he seemed to be his usual self, otherwise (he swam up to surface when I came near the tank). Now, he's laying on the floor, sideways. He moves occasionally, and he's breathing pretty hard...

Your bettas sound beautiful! I'd love to see a picture of the green-bodied guy - very nice

    Bubble Nest?

That's an awful lot of bubbles! Anyways, It sounds like a bubble nest to me. My male betta is solo and he builds bubble nests all the time - I've yet to own a gourami, but my guess is that they'd build bubble nests even if females weren't present as well...so it could be!

    fin rott betta

Hey there An t-iasg, The betta seems to be doing the same, but not any worse, and he still seems to be his lively self. He still has the fuzzy white tip going on, however. I changed about 30% of his water Thursday, and I'm going to continue changing it more regularly as long as his rott...

    fin rott betta

Thanks so much, Bryan - if the water changes don't help, I'll definitely give Maracyn and Maracyn 2 a try

    fin rott betta

Thanks for the advice, QTOFFER - I am going to change his water at least biweekly until I note an improvement. He still has a good bit of "whitish edge" left, so I think I might continue with the Melafix for now. Good luck with your halfmoon! Krap101 - No, my little betta's always been alone...

    fin rott betta

Hey there An t-iasg, Eeep, I hadn't heard that MelaFix could be harmful to bettas - but that's good to know. He's in a 10 gallon tank right now, and I actually just put him in there a few weeks ago - prior to that, he was in a two gallon bowl. At first, I had no idea how and why he'd gotten...

    fin rott betta

My poor little betta came down with fin rott a couple weeks ago - this has been my first encounter in treating any unhealthy fish, as I'm super new to this! Anyways, I treated him with Melafix for seven days (yesterday was the last day), and the directions say to stop after seven, but continue...

    Betta Buddies

An t-iasg, Uh oh...that doesn't sound good! And it further convinces me to leave my betta alone. He can be pretty feisty. Thanks for the story! Bunebop, that's awesome that your betta gets along with the others so nicely - maybe my next betta will too.

    Betta Buddies

Thanks so much for the advice - Magellan (my betta) definitely has attitude, so maybe he was simply meant to roam solo. We'll see! Thanks again, Paula

    Betta Buddies

I just put my betta in a new 10 gallon tank (poor guy had been living in a 1 gallon for a few months!) and I'm thinking about putting some other fish in there as well (maybe some tetras?) - does anyone know which fish bettas are most compatible with? I'd hate to see some 'Kill Bill' action...

    Betta fish with fin rott?

Thanks for the helpful info again, CiRXSi - I'm off to change his water now as a matter of fact! And that stupid plant will be gone by tonight :)

    Betta fish with fin rott?

I'll definitely be keeping my eyes on him. Also, if the tear was caused by the plant, will it heal on its own with time or just continue to get worse? As far as the tank goes, it's not terribly large - it holds about a gallon or so, and no filtration is used. Is this bad? Thanks so much, Paula

    Betta fish with fin rott?

CiRXSi - Thank you for the helpful info. Magellan's solo, no tank mates, and he doesn't have an air stone. He does, however, have a plastic plant...and he lingers around that thing all day. I never realized it could be a threat. I'll definitely replace it with a silk one, just in case. Do...

    Betta fish with fin rott?

I've had my betta for a few months now and he's been healthier than ever. A couple days ago I began to notice a tiny, tiny hole in at the tip of his tail. It's getting bigger... I've never dealt with a sick fish before, but I'm guessing this is fin rott? Does anyone know how I can treat...
