    Long Rubber Gloves

I have the big coralife gloves, too. No leak problems but they are way too big and clumsy--I can't do any fine work in them at all. Might be less of a problem for a guy, though--the gloves are clearly made for male hands.

    5 Gal tank - Help

Cinciboy, I know you weren't asking about the goldfish, but I loves me my goldfish so I have to throw this in--goldfish are really dirty fish that need a minimum of 10 gallons each . . . cmonkey's suggestion of 2 in a 30 gallon is perfect. With 2 in a ten gallon you'll have serious water quality...

    What requires more maintenance?

For me, the SW is a lot more work . . . more tests, have to worry about having RO water for topoffs, have to think ahead so SW is ready for changes . . . YMMV!

    Bubbles?

I think one of the differences in a SW vs. FW tank with the bubbles is that in a FW tank an bubblewand makes nice big bubbles that look decorative, I guess. I've got a bubble wall in my goldfish tank and though it hardly looks natural it's a nice effect and the fish like it. In a SW tank, most...

What lighting would you buy for new 75 gal salt tank

Hi, Barbara--I see from your other posts that you're switching from FW to SW; a lot or people on this board have made that switch. One newb to another, one thing that you'll find is really different in SW (at least in my experience) is that there are as many opinions as posters about things like...

Scales turning white on a domino damsel

Fish certainly can change color when they are sick or stressed. It can also be completely normal as fish mature or even at different times of the day. Can you give more info about your tank--size, how old, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates? How long has the fish been in the tank? Did you QT him?

What does a cyanide death look like?

Thanks, Fishfreek. Two of the three died; number three appears to be okay but I'll just wait and see. I hope I didn't do anything wrong--I'm very disappointed and sad about it.

What does a cyanide death look like?

I've searched several sites and looked through my books, and while there's plenty of info on the dangers of cyanide collection I can't find any info on what it does to fish after the fact. I bought 3 small chromis Thursday evening and put them in a 6-month-old QT tank that had been housing 2...

    Skimmer types

If you aren't set on the AquaC, take a look at Euroreef. I love mine--it skimmed yuck out of freshly mixed SW before I'd even added anything! Easy to set up and run and so far hasn't needed any adjustment.

    Refractometer

I've got the same one and love it. You can point it at any light, so I woudn't think an internal light would be needed. Just one more thing to break.

Torn between where to buy LiveRock

I was worried about the "density" of LR.com, too, but when I got the rock (120 lbs) I was very pleasantly surprised. I would say that about half of it is sort of ordinary shaped--fairly regular all around. But the other half has really interesting formations, including a couple of almost...

    A few unconnected questions . . .

Well, my computer crashed about 3 weeks ago and my replacement just went up yesterday, so I was forced to go through the whole "actually getting the tank started" thing without everyone's advice! Yikes! It probably saved y'all a lot of annoying questions, though. :-) But I do have some...

    Live Rock Question

It's not cheap--probably about average. But what matters more is what kind of rock it is, how much life it has on it, and how much you need--lots of people go online for better deals. I just got 120 lbs from Liverocks.com and I'm very happy. I could have gotten rock locally for about the same...

Yes, it does! Thanks for the tip. I'll try them.

    Probably a dumb question . . .

but after 6 months of planning and waiting, the display tank is finally up and ready for 120 lbs of LR from liverocks.com, arriving Friday. Woo hoo. Anyway, I'm planning on doing a carbonated water dip to try and catch Unwanted Hitchhikers. So the dumb question is . . . . what do I do with them...

Another one of those fish lists

Thanks, everyone. Seaham358--I understand that about the tang--it wouldn't be my choice, but I'm trying to keep hubby happy. Onebowl, any suggestions for hardier anthias? Quarryshark, yeah, I look at the corals as a nice backdrop for the fish. :) Happy to hear more!

Another one of those fish lists

Okay, I finally have a display tank with a plumbed sump, so it's time to get serious about figuring out what fishies are going to live there. It's a 75 w/ 29 g sump/fuge; I'll have ~120 lbs LR, chaeto in the fuge, 4" DSB. Euroreef ES5-3 skimmer. FOWLR for right now, moving into some corals (PC...
