I have been getting virus's from this site since last spring. Something is wrong a professional should look at it since the site admin is not getting it fixed.
It kept coming back...? I have worked on many tanks with green water that had your regimen in place...very advanced keepers and they turned to UV for help in solving it...
Trust me from someone that has had Green Water a number of times on both city and well water the only thing that fixes it is a UV Sterilizer.
Do a search on the forums and you will find the same conclusion. :)
I have used all of the above. For the last 11 years I have used Bio-Sea by AquaCraft because it has all of the good points that have been listed but none of the bad points.
Test for magnesium and iodine and then add if needed. Test for calcium too and add if needed; a lot of the time a large WC will bring all parameters back in line. I like kalkwasser for CA myself, my clams grow like crazy on it.
How do you know what size UV to get? I have a 75 gallon tank. Is there a rule of thumb like cut the rated capicity in half? What about flow rate, again is there a rule of thumb or just follow the directions?
Thanks!
For the dreaded green water, I used an algaecide on a 55 gallon FW tank I had a number of years ago. More recently I used UV to get rid of it on a reef tank; I am sold on UV now because of that and its other water quality enhancements.
