yeah, some more hiding spots will help disperse that so nothing gets too serious. it also helps to compltetely rearrange the decor every once in a while, that way they have to redraw boundaries.

in that case yes. two pairs is easy in either of those. just provide lots of hiding places so the two males can have territores to claim and to prevent fighting.

i personally don't like breeding traps. they cause way too much stress on the females, and they often cause the females to abort fry, which is bad for females in the long run. it's better to provide lots of hiding places in a fry only tank and simply remove the female when she's done.

how big is the tank first of all? generally only one male and one female per tank depending on size... multiple pairs in a small space get tricky.

mine started chasing away other fish first, then hid behind a decoration and swam up and down the side of the tank frantically... a few minutes later a little black dot made it's way out. ;) sounds like she's close! do you have something covering the filter intake?

what type of food do you feed? is the tank planted? water parameters? do you use dechlorinated tap water, RO, well water, etc?

to get rid of snails? add a thing of lettuce before you go to bed, wake up, remove lettuce with snails, and despose of them as you wish.

sometimes you never even see nitrites! if you have a low nitrate reading and are sucking up 4 ppm or so of ammonia in <24 hours, i'd say go ahead with fish.

you CAN do a fish in cycle... there's nothing against that at all. it just means water changes daily for a while (and with such a small tank it shouldn't be a problem) and keep an eye on your readings. if all you want is a betta then a fish-in cycle shouldn't be much of a problem.:)

they flip on their own. if you're suspicious about an unmoving snail... give it a smell... that's really all it takes to find out lol. you'll know if it's dead... have any of the fish burrowed yet?

i would acclimate them like you would any hardy fish. ph swings might not be good.

i wouldn't bother with a filter. i would use a sponge filter instead. there are plenty of DIY videos online, or you can buy one. they're also beneficial for shrimps because they love to eat the debris that gets caught to the external sponge. :)

i would start at about ten. :) they will probably breed a little bit regardless of how much you feed... but they're somewhat profitable if you get overrun. ;)

i have some in my tanks. :) not only do mine keep sand stirred up, they also eat algae!
