I do the sinking veg tab and he eats it right up. Also, I recently added a piece of drift wood. How often do you feed?

How often, how much, and what do you feed your BN Pleco. Mine seems very happy, although he hides a lot. Can you give me some advice on feeding and what do you recommend?

Question about Angel Plus sponge filters..

One thing I did with my Angels Plus filter was to pour the water that was in bag that the filter came in over my media that was in my filter. I also lightly squeezed the filter over my media. My tank cycled in about 2 days after doing nothing with fish in for over 2 months. I let the Angels Plus...

    Stand

If you do a search for Aquarium Stands on the net you will come across some good builds. They are usually larger or big set-ups for Saltwater, but you get good ideas on what you want to build and how to do it. Search DIY Aquarium Stands, build your own, etc. Just don't make it cheap. You are...

    What's in your Aquaclear?

Aquaclear with 2 sponges on the bottom and the Bio-Max on top, no carbon. My thoughts I can change out one sponge at a time and keep a dirty one to seed the new one when it's time to change the filters it they start falling apart.

    Need advice on changing filters

I have two sponges in my Aqua Clear and the Bio Filter. My plan is if a sponge needs replaced, change one at a time and leave an established one in. I agree to get rid of the carbon unless you need it for something specific.

Filter Media, Cycling, General Advice Questions

One other item looking at your test results picture. Do a pH with the higher end pH test. It looks like you may be above the upper limit on the Low pH test.

Cycling wit Fish and Bacteria in a Bottle

You only need to clean your gravel about once a month or if you see it getting really dirty. No need to clean it every water change. Good stuff grows in your substrate so you don't want to clean it frequently.

How do I set up holding tank?

I read about several people doing this and have a friend that does a QT tank. Like it was said above, you established media from your current tank. I have seen QT tanks with the bare minimum (Light, Heater, Filter). No gravel or sand, plants, or fancy decos. Just some plain PVC pieces of pipe so...

    Frustrated

You need to do some big water changes and get that Ammonia down to a level less than 0.5. This may require multiple water changes in one day. The fish are being harmed. Test frequently and do frequent water changes to get keep the ammonia down. Mollies and Plecos are big waste generators so you...

DISCUS EXPERTS : What do you use for RO water?

RO water is very slow to make as you will also have reject water. The reject water is the water will all the stuff that is filtered out. This water can be used to run a load of laundry or keep to water plants. You will need a storage bin even if it is smaller because most home RO's or the...

DISCUS EXPERTS : What do you use for RO water?

Not a Discus expert, but I have been looking into Saltwater for a long time and never got around it. RO will remove the majority of contaminates, minerals, and ions from water. DI or Deionized will polish it off and make it pure. If you need RO, the best thing you can do is purchase a unit off...

3 month old tank not cycling

Keep us update and check your water daily. My started cycling in less than 24 hours after adding the active media. Also, I squeezed the media and dumped the water from the bag over my current sponges in the HOB filter. The tank is cycled and it went quickly so keep an eye on you test results.

    new aquarium question

First, you are looking at around 500 pounds of water plus gravel, filter, rocks, plants, etc. in you aquarium. Make sure what you are putting it on can hold it for a long time. You do run the risk of water getting under the aquarium. Say you drip some down the side during a water change, it may...

    Cheap LED solution???

Question: I am looking to do a small 10 gallon reef for my office. Do you think one 25w 12K would be enough. I don't plan to have a canopy, just an open top. Looking for some feedback. Those lights are great and a cheap option.

    Slow Cycle-New Approach

That was Fast!!! Well today I came home from work and tested the tank and got the following: pH=7.8 Ammonia=<0.25 NO2=0.5ppm NO3=5ppm Temp=78F I am going to do a water change in a few minutes since the NO2 is so high. Talk about fast!! I am now a firm believer in the active media, it really...

    Cycling

Cycling is the formation of beneficial bacteria that grow to break down Ammonia. Fish waste produces Ammonia which is very harmful at elevated levels. You want to keep it below 0.5, more like no higher than 0.25. As the Ammonia begins to convert you will see Nitrites form which are also harmful...

3 month old tank not cycling

I am having the same issue with a slow cycle. The only thing I can suggest is getting some media from a established tank either from a LFS or online. I just purchased an active piece of filter from Angels Plus and put it in my tank. I squeezed the media over my current sponges in my HOB filter...

@HeatherW: 29 gallon Tank. I am currently running the filter per Angels Plus's instructions and using an air line with the lift tube.
