    siamese algae eaters

    Picked up 2 true siamese algae eaters to help control hair algae. It's been 2 weeks now and they don't even go near it. I've read that they eat hair algae. What a waste. They do enjoy the others fishes food though.

    sexing keyholes

    I raised 6 keyholes and removed 4 when 2 paired off. Contrary to what I've read that the males have longer fins, darker coloring, and are larger, I've found this to be untrue. Maybe there is no accurate way to determine sex.

    sick keyhole cichlid

    One of my five keyholes is sick. Labored breathing, sluggish, staying in one place long periods of time. He now is getting clamped fins. Does anyone know what it could be and the best way to treat it. I've done a 50 percent water change so far and used eurythromicin.

    Can't decide on which would be better for moderate light plants in a 30 extra high aquarium. Is the new Coralife 24" T-5 double tube fixture a better choice than say an Odyssea compact flourescent 65 watt?

    Egg cluster?

    Just above the water level stuck to the wall of the pond is a cluster of what looks to be pink colored eggs. The pond is stocked with goldfish,tadpoles/frogs,and snails. What may have produced these eggs?

    Algae bloom/soft water

    Does soft water promote algae more than hard water or does either have any effect on algae blooms? My water is extremely soft and now have a second bought with algae.I do keep the light on about 8 hours a day for the live plants and I know this will promote algae.
