Please help with Lionfish - think it's dying

Thanks for the help and the condolences on the lionfish; I was really quite attached to both the lionfish and the eel that died recently. Thanks also for the advice on how to keep the nitrates down and hot to convert if that is what we decide to do.

    Conversion from salt to freshwater?

Thanks for replying Phyl. The ornamental cave has been in the tank for about eight months, so I don't think that had anything to do with the fish dying. I'll take your advice and think about it before changing to FW, but I'm really getting sick of dying fish and think that changing might be...

    Conversion from salt to freshwater?

Thanks for your help, Cindy. I've been to the website you mentioned to look at their SW fish, so I'll definitely check it out for the FW fish. Thanks again, I appreciate it.

    Conversion from salt to freshwater?

Thank you Cindy; I think I'll give that a try. I see that you have a freshwater aquarium; are there any fish that you would specifically recommend to begin with? We had a freshwater aquarium years ago, but only had ciclids in it, so I'm not at all familiar with any other freshwater fish.

Please help with Lionfish - think it's dying

Thanks for the advice, but it's too late for the lion; he died about an hour ago; his fins just disintegrated. I posted another topic in the general discussion about converting from saltwater to freshwater and what that would entail doing. I've tried everything with this saltwater tank and I'm...

    Conversion from salt to freshwater?

Okay, I've had it; I give up! We've had our saltwater aquarium for almost a year now and have had nothing but problems with our fish. Everything we get dies. We have a trickle filter, a canister filter and a hang-on filter. I test the water constantly and the water is fine, but we can't seem...

Please help with Lionfish - think it's dying

Sick lionfish We feed him krill and the nitrates are very high, our test kit reads up to 160 mg/L and they are higher than that. I have been doing 10-12 gallon water changes once to twice a week, but it hasn't helped at all. However, the nitrates have been high since before we got the...

Please help with Lionfish - think it's dying

Hi, please give any advice you can. We've had this lionfish for about two months, has been very healthy, eats well, no problems. Last week our snowflake eel got stuck in an ornamental cave and died. Last Saturday we introduced a new wolf eel into the tank. Today the lionfish is sluggish...

    Snowflake eel and starfish

Hi, we have a 55-gallon saltwater tank with a snowflake eel and two sand-sifting starfish. My question is really two-fold. 1. The snowflake eel doesn't seem too impressed with the krill that we bought, but he goes crazy for frozen, cooked cocktail shrimp that we bought for ourselves. Will...

Ich - lowering salinity as an option

I've already read what you suggested; that's how I decided that salinity would be the best. I just wasn't sure about the eel and the starfish. Thanks for your response; it's appreciated.

Ich - lowering salinity as an option

Hi, we have a 55-gallon saltwater tank. I have noticed a white sugary dusting on the fins of our yellow tang which we got about two weeks ago. I'm assuming this is ich. I've read about the different treatments for ich and lowering the salinity seems like the best option for me. I wondered if...

    damsel in distress?

Steve, We've had the fish for about five weeks, bought at the same time and put directly into the tank, only other tank mate is a scooter blenny that we have had for about five months. They eat frozen brine shrimp and have been eating well. We use Aquarium Pharmaceuticals liquid test kit and...

    damsel in distress?

Hi, we have two domino damsel fish and a scooter blenny in a 55-gallon tank. For the last couple of days one of the dominos has been a reddish brown in color, instead of black, but turns black when frightened. They're eyes also look like they have clear "capsules" over them. Does anyone know...

    Dominoe damsel in distress?

You guys are great! I can't believe how fast you replied to a distress signal. Thanks so much, now I think I can sleep for the night and hopefully everything will be alright in the morning. Thanks again, I really appreciate it. :n00b:

    Dominoe damsel in distress?

Thanks for your quick reply. I'm kinda new at this and have lost a couple of other fish, so I'm really paranoid. I appreciate the help.

    Dominoe damsel in distress?

:? Hi, there, I just cleaned my 55-gallon aquarium, which apparently freaked my dominoe damsel and now it is wedged into a coral skeleton in the tank. Is this something to worry about? Should I try to get it out of the coral, or just leave it alone? I don't want the poor thing to die, but...

    Damsels in distress

Thanks for the advice. Now I know you're going to think I'm really stupid, but how do you adjust the pH? The temp in the tank fluctuates between 76-78 degrees.

    Damsels in distress

We've had our aquarium set up since mid May. During the cycling process we lost two yellow-tailed damsels, two clown fish and one scooter blenny (I know, since then I have learned I should not have used fish for cycling); one scooter blenny survived and is doing great. The tank finally...

    Please help

I really don't think my test kit is at fault here, as I am losing fish. I realize it was my own stupidity that killed the little guys, but I really want to save the others. Has anyone heard of the product from Seachem called Stability, and does it work?, or do you know of something...

    Please help

I'm using tap water with a dechorinator for water changes. If water changes are a bad idea for cycling the tank, what should I do? I really don't want to see any more fish die!

    Please help

I have had a 55-gallon salt-water tank set up now for two and a half months, but it still hasn't finished cycling. The ammonia went up and came down, the nitrites went up and stayed up, they have been between 3 and 6 since July 24 (when incidentally one clown fish died, sorry to say). I've...

    Sick clown?

Our aquarium is a 55-gallon, set up about eight weeks ago. We have two yellow-tailed damsels and two clown fish, purchased at the same time, three to four weeks ago. They have all seemed very healthy, however, over the last few days one clown has been hovering in a small alcove in a fake...
