Hoplo Catfish (Megalechis thoracata) should fit the bill. Hardy, peaceful and very active. or how about Porthole Catfish (Dianema longibarbis) group of 4 portholes or more for the full effect. again these are Hardy, peaceful and very active.

    Pleco or Oto?

I wouldn't chooses the oto's the pictus will eat anything it can fit into it's mouth, a full grown pictus should be able to take an Oto quite easily. The BNP may be a better choice.

how many 6 inch fish could I fit in a 500 litre

African dwarf frogs are peaceful I have kept them with small tetras neons, cardinals and red phantoms no problems. The dwarf frog may nip another fish due to poor eye sight when feeding but they don't eat other fish. The only problem with dwarf frogs is they can't compete well with more active...

    Striped raphael catfish

Your tank should be fine, and the driftwood should provide enough cover. Tho I also purchased new driftwood which I made into a cave and the Raphael didn't use it, it kicked the plec out of it's cave ! Get your lfs to catch it in a plastic tub or similar, they will probably double bag it but I...

    Striped raphael catfish

You may have room what is the foot print of the tank ? You will need to provide caves for the Raphael, they are extremely nocturnal. This is a must this Fish needs to hide/cover Once they acclimatise they may/ will come out for food but that will probably be the only time you see them lights...

    Bigger Fish For Community Tank

Bolivians tend to be hardier than GBR, have kept both wouldn't recommend mixing both due to territorial issues. If you go for GBR you really want good stock as they are more sensitive than the Bolivian, but both do need quality conditions. Both are peaceful but they are cichlids my bolivians...

    Adding to the Tank

Ahh was wondering why no Nitrates !, to help answer your original question, I would watch with the Barbs as the Betta's fins may be to much temptation for them. Corydoras will be no problem especially as you have sand substrate and you have plenty to choose from thou I would recommend 6, but...

    Good Filter Opinions.

If you need to use an internal filter check the Eheim Biopower 240, quiet and great media and versatile for a internal. The fluval u4 is also good but I swapped it out for the biopower 240 I preferred the flexibility with the media compared to the fluval. Worth noting both these internals are...

    40g tank! Switching from 10g!

I have one African dwarf, feeding mine i normally place a sinking wafer or algae wafer next to it in order to feed it, I also feed it live or frozen bloodworm which it goes nuts for, I use a turkey Baster to target the adf, they can be a challenge to feed. I only have the one who has been in...

Need an extra filter - what should I get?

Sorry a bit late with the reply only just seen your thread If you need to go internal for a secondary filter i would recommend the Eheim biopower, easy to clean etc and unlike the U4 is far more flexible with the media, I have used jewel internals, fluval u4/u2 and the biopower 240 is the...

    Is there an aquarium eel?

If you go for weather/dojo loaches be aware they need lower temps 25c max, i keep mine at 23- 24c and they are active. You can keep them alone but they are great in groups, I keep three and they are great to watch very social fish with there own type. Very peaceful and hardy , most people...

    Honey sunset gourami eating

Agreed the baster is a good idea, I use it for shy and difficult to feed fish ,ie African dwarf frogs etc Give your honey time to settle as said they are shy fish. My honey was also the same, was hiding in the plants and not coming out to feed, after a couple of weeks it's always out and about...
