If you look closely at the rock you will see the weird bubbles I was talking about. Periodically the release bring bits of the sandbed with to the surface.

Sounds great thanks but as for the weird cyano stuff... It not like any slime that I've encountered in the past. It's sort of light brown and hairy and basically shows in the form of bubbles coving everything from sand to rocks, I've tried the slime remover medication but the stuff went...

I think a high grade skimmer is definitely worth it in the long run. It will make your life easier.... I learned the hard way that a good skimmer makes all the difference in my 46. What your suggesting is possible but not necessarily sustainable especially if you plan on increasing the bio load...

Check out my new rock layout! I went ahead and bit the bullet and bought the super premium stuff... Rock kind of stands out now but has great growth and should fit in soon.... Srry for murky water been messing around in it for awhile

Do not use tap water! I learned the hard way that the small traces of phosphates can cause bad algae blooms even if trates and trites are not testing. Use distilled water or buy premixed saltwater from your lfs. It's less than a dollar a gallon in most stores here in south fl. Good luck!

Kinda looks like some sort of red slime... But also looks a lot like coralline. I would keep an I on and make sure your parameters are in check. I discovered the hard way that it does not take much of a phosphate spike to cause a nasty case of cyano.
