Cut down your feedings. 1x a day is fine with 2-3min.

Some people feed their fish every other day. IMHO, 3x a day feeding for 4-5 min is a lot. Personally, I feed 1x a day with 2-3min feedings. It wouldn't hurt to change your feeding to every other day until you get your levels controlled. Your fish would be fine.

I would cut down feedings to 2-3 min / 1x day with PWC daily until you get the level managed. What kind of fiilter are you using?

I did another 50% PWC last night and will test water levels this evening. If the nitrite levels are present, I am going to bite the bullet and get the Special Blend and cross my fingers.

I never seen a swordtail get 4". Are you including the tail in the size? If so, it would easily add 1"-2". I am actually looking into getting a male sword tail in the next few weeks --- I only have a female since the male died from my male betta harrassment.

I would think that the swordtails have similar behavior in community tanks with the platys and mollies. All three appear to explore all aspects of the tank -- unlike my tetras and rainbows that usually hang-out in certain parts of the tank.
