    36g tank

I am assuming Australian Rainbow = "Melanotaenia boesemani" ? If so you'll probably be okay with the Kribensis JoeyGeeze suggested in the quoted post. The rainbow shark can be a bit territorial, but won't usually cause too much of an issue ( results will very from tank to tank ). One thing to...

I need help please!!! Dosing with metro

I may have missed it,but, what kind of salt are you going to use? Aquarium salt, epsom salt, table salt or kosher salt? I am sure there are a few I missed. Make sure you use uniodized salt with no anticaking agent.

I need help please!!! Dosing with metro

The erthromycin will work fine for fin/tail rot, ( I have used it with great success ). Just read the label it will tell you what it is for. It is important to note that fin/tail rot can be both a gram negative or gram positive infection. The metro I misread as I do not use this generally, so...

    36g tank

My guess is that most people will not have tried that mix. My gut/experience tells me this is a bad idea. First thing to think about is the requirements of the fish. Think about PH levels and water condition, if compatible. Think about size and aggressive nature, if that seems good. Think about...

    Heaters

Those heaters get pretty hot so burying it will force it to retain heat. Heat the gravel, gravel retains heat. Heat will not circulate as well. Africans like to dig. So!!! It's no problem if you don't mind. Hot/cold spots in your aquarium. Potential over heating of the heater (Possibly...

my new marineland 20 gallon led tank

I wouldn't worry about the Danios too much, they are resilient little buggers. I prefer cycling with live fish as opposed to fishless cycle. Just knod of depends on the situation I guess.

    Oscar... What color is he???

I've never bred Oscars so I'm not really sure. Golden Oscars are rare now so maybe you should try and find another and see what happens. Maybe these fellas might catch on again.

From your pictures I think, and I say think because the pictures aren't very clear. You have what appears to be ich in there, Metronidazole should take care of that. It looks as though you may have some fin/tail rot as well. This could be treated wtih Erythromicin. I would suggest using a...

    Oscar... What color is he???

Golden Oscars were developed by Herb Fogel in the early 80's. This is not a dyed or hybrid of multiple species. It is the product of multiple Oscars (Astronotus ocellatus) of different colors being selectively breed to acquire that specific coloration. He looks pretty awesome though! I just...

Soon to be new 36G tank and have some questions..

Nice to see all the chemist come out of the wood work and state regurgitated mistruths as fact. Here is some info on chloramines aka Monochloramine. (some fun facts if you will ). Now I know some people are still going to stick to their guns and say things like. While I was talking to gas...

    Oscar... What color is he???

Can't really make out the color. However it looks like an every day common Oscar. Haven't seen one of them in 15 years. Usually they are found in Tiger, red or albino, tiger albino. There are some rare colors, but most are dyed and the others are disputed as to if they are dyed or not. I was...

    Water help!!!

Ouch! You are definitely back to cycling. Do daily water changes, 50% ( more if needed ) or so. Remember to dechlor the water to avoid killing bacteria and fish.

Soon to be new 36G tank and have some questions..

Chlorine will dissipate naturally in 24 hours. Chloramine is a bit tougher but after a week will present little or no threat. Heavy metal in common water is not common as PH levels are kept high enough to prevent corrosion of copper piping preventing copper from building up in water ( Don't...

Soon to be new 36G tank and have some questions..

If you can wait to get fish no conditioner is necessary. Just cycle the aquarium and you are good to go. Most conditioners will slow the cycling process or stop it completely as they remove ammonia from the water by chemical as opposed to the bio cycle. An aquarium can cyle in as little as a...

    Help with Aquarium Set Up!

It depends on the total number of fish going in the aquarium. Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) actually get pretty big, around 6" long and up to 10" tall. Angel fish will do best in an aquarium that is at least 18" high and 48" long. This will give the fish adequate space to live. You could...
