    New tank upgrade :)

Just transfer enough for the fish... So a pail full. Top it up with fresh de-chlorinated water. It's like a big water change. That's it.

    Planted freshwater

I'm actually waiting to upgrade this one to my 75. Then I will be adding a lot more plants, and a second set of T5's.

    Planted freshwater

My 55 planted has 2 albino Senegal bichirs, 3 albino bristlenose plecos, and a regular bristlenose. I run 2 AC 110's and do weekly 50% water changes.

    Water changes once cycled?

Depends on stock and bioload. I keep the nitrates in my Fahaka tank under 20ppm, which takes 50% WC per week. I also have some pothos plants in the corner sucking up nitrates. Sensitive fish like puffers and discus should always have the lowest readings of nitrates possible. That's why some...

How many freshwater fish can I have In a 60 gallon tank?

Please do some research on Balas... They get big and should be kept in groups of 6+. I would move those out completely.

    puffer fish

Depends completely on the species. A "Fahaka" or Tetraodon Lineatus, will pretty much kill and try to eat anything in it's tank. Here is mine. He is in a 150 gallon all to himself. Hi name is Mufasa.

Pros and Cons of Live Plants

I have a 55 gallon planted and all I run is T5NO, not HO. I grow a decent variety.

I know why you mean, but it's all in the work you put in. I breed crayfish and snails, so my costs stay relatively cheap. Market shrimp I always buy from the discount bin ;)

Sorry I'm slow at replying... My sump is pretty simple. I have a plastic "drawer" in which I have : on the first level, scrubbies (the kind for dish washing), they are not submerged. On the bottom level is biomax and some filter sponges. These are submerged. I will try to get a few pics up in...

Here's a few pics from my marine tank.

    My bichirs

I have 2 albino bichirs in a 50 gallon long planted tank. There are also 3 tiger barbs, an albino bristlenose and a regular bristlenose in the tank with the bichirs.

Are we going to be overstocked??

I'd bump the WC's up to 50% per week. I think trying to keep nitrates at <20 is ideal. Up to 40 ppm and it could be harming the fish over a longer span of time - just my opinion.

    filter.. 60g

Flow would be the only question in my opinion. If you have an FX5 on hand, give it a shot. If you're thinking of buying one to replace the two working filters you have, I'd say there's no point. Save the cash or spend it on something else. Oh, did you mean 405? No idea what a 406 is.

    Clearing Water

Sorry man, it's a post, don't have hard feelings. I have 7 running tanks with all types of fish. I'd never tell anyone to let their fish die, unless it was to feed their bigger fish... :) Take my advice tho, for real... Bio media and water changes are key. Carbon takes out meds, etc, things...

    Clearing Water

What am I supposed to put in the filter.....??? How about porous material that bacteria can attach to? The one inch rule is also a joke.... I have a SINGLE fish in a 150 gallon tank and he's maybe 10 inches. Pick up some bio media an a sponge. Voila, that's what you should have in that little...
