Aww, sorry skulljug, if I had only known... :wink: I was a bit worried about the poison use around the tank, but I don't use an air pump and I only put it behind on the carpet. Hopefully the fish will be ok.

Just as an update, I am STILL struggling with algae in my planted. I am about ready to rip everything out and start over. Anyway, at lights on this morning (I have an external ballast thingy under my tank) I noticed some ants on a newly added diy co2 bottle. Well considering there is sugar water...

This may be overkill, but to get things going, after I put everything in the bottle I let it sit in a warm bath in my sink for a while. I started this diy business when it was still cold. My house is warm enough now I think I can probably skip this step.

If you are willing to experiment, those aponogeton bulbs you can buy at walmart do pretty well with low light and they send up loooong shoots with leaves. I have grown these with less than 1 wpg.

Jave Fern does really well with low light and Java moss as well. I have had both in fairly hard water with less than 1wpg.

I took the instructions from this page http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/art_plant_nitrate.htm I put 2 tbl spoons of the grants in 250ml of really warm water. I shook it up for a few seconds and it dissolved pretty quickly. I dosed 1ml with a water change. My AP kit did not register any nitrate...

I don't really get the calculator that is here.. http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/art_plant_dosage_calc.htm It lets you type in how many tsp you want to mix with how ever much water you type in, but I don't know how much is the recommened ammount of water.

I got some Grant's stump remover today and I have been looking around to see how to and how much of this stuf to dose. Not getting a whole lot of info. Any ideas??

I know you want recommendations for larger fish but I do have to add here that otos like to be in groups so I would add a few more of those first of all (If you are planning on keeping him)

LoL, I am obsessed with algae. I have not had the time or the means to get the propper test kits and nutrients I need to rid my planted of algae. The heat thing sounds interesting. I am not sure how my fish would handle it though. I should take a pic of my tank to show everyone how bad it is. :lol:

I think there is an iodine additive for shrimp but I don't know anything about it. How old are these shrimp? When mine got old they started turning white and would pass on shortly after.

Oh wow. That is really gross. I am super sorry about your plec. I just lost a betta to tumors. The only thing I could really do for him was keep his water clean and make sure he was as comfortable as possible. Good luck to you.

The maracyn will be fine for the betta. Is his tank heated? I know a lot of people keep their bettas in cold water but it really should be around 78-80* Does he have a filter in with him? If you are using the same jug to take out the dirty water as put clean in you could be contaminating the...

The ph is fine so long as its stable. Were you doing anything before to try and bring it down? PH fluctuations are very stressful for fish. If I had to hazard a guess I would say the algae eater you added two weeks ago may have brought something in. If this were my tank I would do a really good...
