I have a 30 gal tank with lots of live rock and 4 small fish. I have been given an under gravel filter and was thinking of using it but I think I read somewhere they are not so good for a salt water tank. Any help as to wheather or not I should use the UGF would help thanks.

The fish doesn't look bloated at all and there is no stringy matter and I am not sure about the feces. The fish does not seem to eat at all when I am watching so I am not sure if it is eating. Before the problem the fish would eat flakes, brine shrip, squid, lettice pretty much anything I gave it.

All test are done at about 5pm, two to three days apart. The higher readings are taken just after I put buffer in. I have to use the buffer to adjust the ph up after each test. I change 10% every two to three weeks. thanks

Does a powerhead just push the water around or is it a filter as well ? Why is it important to push the water around ? I only have live rock and four small fish and a snail in a 30 gal tank do I need a powerhead?
