Removing center brace on 4ft tank

Just figure if your tank has a center brace it was put there in order for the rest of the tank to be made of thinner or weaker glass to save the aquarium maker some money. You may be able to redo the brace out of some clear acrylic , but I would have to be confident in my ability to bond the...

    Hole size

I have a 135g 6ft tank and I drilled 1 1/2" holes for 1" bulkheads. I drilled the same for the return but wish I would have went with a smaller return because its hard to find the fittings I want. So I would go with 1 1/2" holes for the drain, and 1" hole for the return.

    Small Cyclone Forming

I'm sure it is somewhat a benefit but the noise is rather annoying, and if you run a protein skimmer, this isn't doing anything your skimmer isn't .

    DIY Live Rock

I've heard concrete can really increase the ph of your tank and leech stuff for a while, I've read somewhere about someone curing their rock for 3 months and changing the water every day, and still the water goes in with a ph of 7 comes out with a ph of 10.

    LED light question?

Also I've noticed when I do a large water change if the coraline algae is out of water for even a shot while it will die. I've had a line in my tank of white coraline algae from doing water changes.

How to Tell if Coral has Too Much or Too Little Light

I had some zoas that didn't ever open under full light (120w LEDs) but didn't die or recede either. Finally moved them to partial shade and they are open all day now and multiplying,

    Question about metal halides

All that matters is the size of the base , the glass doesn't matter. If its the same wattage (or even less wattage I believe ) your good.

Powerheads: best flow for your dough!

I got a used set of tunze 6100's and controller for $300 on ebay, they are a little old, but work great and didn't cost a fortune. The controller alone was $300 new.

    Buying a used Acrylic tank

Try this about the sanded part, try flame polishing, get a torch, bic lighter won't due, but they make little torches that use little cigarette lighters as fuel and put the flame to an out of the way spot, and move the flame around slowly with the tip of the flame just touching the acrylic. You...

    LEDs for a 45 gallon?

I would do 4x50w multi chip LEDs whatever color you like maybe warm white or cool white. Cree has some great lamps like this, I think they are called xpg's for about $30 each. Get you 2 heatsinks around 6-8" x 18-20" in size. And run the 50w LEDs at 30w, so a led driver at 36v and 1000mA for...

    Question about metal halides

Usually metal halides are either what's called mogul or hqi based. The mogul is nearly the same as a regular light bulb (like e26 or something) except its threaded part is twice as big as a regular light bulbs'. The hqi bulb is about 4" long and shaped like a roll of quarters and has a metal...

    Lighting for 220 reef

I am about to purchase three "Chinese black boxes" for a 125g and currently have one over a 47g column tank and love it. I say three would be great over your tank. It's really the cheapest way to get sps light levels over a large tank. I'm going with the twilight group, they are a little...

advice on size of skimmer and pump

I would look for a sump pump rated for 600-800gph, and a skimmer rated for 60-120gallons.

    where to buy bridgelux optics?

The optics will work for bridgelux or epistar. Just search 3w led optics, or just led optics and arrange results by price lowest first and scroll through reading the descriptions until you find what you want. I've bought a lot of LEDs off eBay. Here's a pic of either bridglux or epistar...

It's interesting looking, kinda reminds me of jewelry it's light and dark shades of a silver'ish color, it has multiple openings or "mouths" kinda like an open brain coral. Any ideas?

Anyone been stung by a bristle worm?

I did grab a rock and not see it, it scared me because I felt something wiggle under my finger. I never saw the offending critter though.

Anyone been stung by a bristle worm?

Lol I already rubbed them all off, I tried pulling them out and they are just too short and fine to get a hold of, then I noticed I broke some so I just rubbed them all off. May just go on and pop a Benadryl now and sleep good tonight, but it isn't bothering me, maybe my skin on my finger tips...

Anyone been stung by a bristle worm?

I wouldn't really call it stung because it doesn't hurt, but I got hold of a bristle worm today and have the bristles to prove it, lol, and they are not coming out with tweezers.

    Sca skimmer 180g

Here's a pic of mine with 24hrs of skim in it. It is kinda small, I mean it would probably be perfect for 90g of water volume. I'm stretching it with my setup.

    Sca skimmer 180g

I don't know, I do know they have an optional larger collection cup, and my cup is a little different than the one pic, mine has a drain. And they could have changed the collection cup because I do remember some complaints when I researched my purchase about the cups being a little small, but i...

    Sca skimmer 180g

I don't know, maybe the pic has been resized to give the appearance of being tiny, may the guy holding it is a beast. But the one I own appears much larger , when I get home I will recreate that pic and post it for comparison. In my skimmer the neck appears around 4" wide
