    Freshwater dip gone bad?

I wonder if this could possibly have come from the pet store. None of my other fish have this, they are all colorful, healthy and active without a single mar on their body, it is just this new fish. All my water parameters are within acceptable limits (Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 5, 1.021...

How much light is too much?

I am planning on putting 400 Watts over a 40, so no, not too much light.

    Freshwater dip gone bad?

I brought home a new Coral Beauty Angel the other day and acclimated him to the tank and he was doing very well, even ate within minutes of being in the new tank. However, I observed him yesterday scratching himself on the substrate and observed what appeared to be very small white specks on his...

What do I feed a blue lobster

I would skip the lobster, they can and will eat whatever they can get their hands on. I had one in a freswater tank that attempted to decimate my fish population.

    NEMO DOWN!

Flushing I would have froze him first.

    NEMO DOWN!

One other thing, PetCo fish are crap, pure crap. Every SW fish I have bought from PetCo has died with the exception of two Domino Damsels. A great percentage of the freshwater fish I have bought from PetCo have also died. No, I am not doing anything wrong, all my other fish stay alive...

    NEMO DOWN!

I was really worried about my first fish, a large, wild caught, Percula Clown. I paid $25.00 for the guy and for the first 4-5 days he just sat in the same place, breathing heavy and not eating or moving much, and, almost overnight what looked like a lateral line infection popped up. I thought...

    Vacuum sand?

Octopets I was researching and came across cultrured Octopi from Octopets. com and according to their site their octopi can be kept in as little as 25 gallons. http://www.octopets.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=OctoPets&Product_Code=OctoPet&Category_Code=Octopet I am still...

    Vacuum sand?

Thanks for the advice guys, in about one month the tank will be converted to a full reef and moved to an AGA 40 gallon breeder. I just have to figure out what to do with the 29 gallon tank, I was thinking of making it an octopus tank or a sump.

    Vacuum sand?

I just converted from using crushed coral to using sand in my 29 gallon FO tank. The sand is VERY fine sugar sized particles and I REALLY like the looks of it over crushed coral. I would vacuum my crushed coral once a week during the water change. Should I vacuum the sand???? It is a true FO...

    berlin airlift 60 protein skimmer

Get a Bak-Pak 2 I would second the advice and get a Bak-Pak 2. I have one and I have to empty it daily. I had a Sea Clone 100 and sold it as I didnt like it, the person I sold it to did a few mods on it and got it skimming but eventually did away with it.

    berlin airlift 60 protein skimmer

It is crap It is crap, you get what you pay for and for $30.00 you get a big ugly skimmer that sits in your tank taking up space and doesnt even skim well. Save your money and buy a good skimmer!

    Water opinions!!

Test your distilled water, properly distilled water is more pure than RO/DI water. The distilled water I purchase from the grocery store for my freshwater tank has been carbon filtered, then run through an RO filter and then steam distilled and I have 0 problems with algae, I am also using this...

    10 gal

Too small I am a newbie to saltwater, but I can tell you that a ten gallon tank may be a bit small for two clowns. You may want to go to a bigger tank size like a 20 or 29 gallon tank.

    Acclimation disaster

Really, it wasnt hard. It was three damsels who each lasted less than 12 hours, not three in a row in under 12 hours. Who knows what I was doing wrong then. I think I got it right this time though!

    Acclimation disaster

Well, 10 days later and he is still alive!!! In fact, he is doing well! I was worried about him and was even thinking of trying to return him. He was staying in one spot in the tank, swimming very little and not eating. He has come around really well. He eats like crazy and spends most of...

    Sump questions

I am VERY new to SW, about one week new in fact. I currently have a 29 gallon FO tank with a Percula Clown. I decided I did not like the 29 gallon after I set it up and went and bought a 40 gallon that is lower, wider and longer than the 29 gallon (36X18X16). It provides far more surface area...

    Fluval 404 Sucks (air!)

I agree, mine works great, another friend at work has a smaller Fluval and it works great also. Neither of us has trouble with air bubbles and it is probably the quietest filter I own. The only reason I have trouble with priming is that the intake strainer has a small ball that goes up and down...

    Acclimation disaster

I do not know what was causing the temp to rise so high. I have since plugged the power heads back in and the temp is remaining at 81 degrees. I have since bought a new aquarium, one with far more surface area to aid with cooling. I will transfer everything to the new aquarium later this...

    Acclimation disaster

Wow 39 hours later and he is still swimming! He has not ate yet, I threw a bit of thawed krill in and he swam towards it and nipped it but didnt eat it.

    Acclimation disaster

Looks good still 21 hours later and the fish is still alive. He/She spent most of the day bobbing near a corner of the tank but has begun cruising the rest of the bottom. Temp is about 26 C.

Fluval 404 noise driving me nuts!

I have been using a Fluval 404 for over a year now and I love the thing! I have very little trouble with noise, erratic operation or micro-bubbles. My main complaint is that it is a pain in the behind to prime sometimes and if you get water in the filter then you can have trouble with bubbles...

    Fluval 404 Sucks (air!)

Fine for me I have been using a Fluval 404 for over a year now and I love the thing! I have very little trouble with noise, erratic operation or micro-bubbles. My main complaint is that it is a pain in the behind to prime sometimes and if you get water in the filter then you can have trouble...

    Acclimation disaster

Well, 7am and he looks good. Water temp is 80, he has survived 12 hours in the tank. A new record for a saltwater fish for me! I tired this a couple years ago and promptly killed 3 damsel fish one after the other and gave up and went fresh, but I was doing it all wrong back then, a couple...
