Switching from HOB filter to a canister

The canister was quiet but I moved it around this afternoon and now it's making noise and blowing bubbles again, is it gonna stop??? :/

Switching from HOB filter to a canister

Everything went nicely with the canister, it turns out I had to push a pump thing and stuff! It's all quiet now because I set it up yesterday, and I've never seen my tank water so clear!!! This filter rocks ^^

Switching from HOB filter to a canister

No, the flow nozzles were entirely open, and I twisted them some and such to double check. I'll be home to work the filter in a bit

Switching from HOB filter to a canister

Yeah the plate does sit on the top! I'll do what you said after dinner (we're going out for my moms b-day so it'll be awhile) and when I set it up and such I'll tell you how things went! I can't wait ^^

Switching from HOB filter to a canister

I bought it from a friend so I have no instructions, but I followed everything exactly the way he told me to (except the plate) and so I'm gonna put the plate in and start things up and see if it quiets down the way that someone mentioned prior saying it might be trapped air

Switching from HOB filter to a canister

The top of the canister says "penn-plrx cascade" (with the proper little (R) and tm things) so I assume that's the model but if I'm wrong and need to look for something else, tell me.

    Platy fry bent tail?

Wow I never heard of the vitamin deficiency one, the bent spine thing mine has makes it's spine shaped like a sideways turned "S" and it gets more severe as it gets older but shouldn't cause pain or health problems although it'll be more sensitive to bad water.

Switching from HOB filter to a canister

Hey everybody! I just almost switched the canister and filter, but I had some technical difficulties so now it's all hooked up but its off. I accidentally left this one little plate out that's supposed to go on top, and the canister is also quite loud, not in the ends of the tubes but the...

Switching from HOB filter to a canister

My SW is gonna be a 10g nano, with a mated pair of purple fire fish. I'll be getting the canister filter components hopefully today and if not tomorrow, I'll have the info on how everything goes on the switch, and if all goes well ill be posting a mini refugium thread :)

Switching from HOB filter to a canister

Switching from HOB filter to a canister

I just now read this thing online saying that my topfin30 filter isn't even big enough for a 29 gallon but... Ive been using it on my 40g and it works just fine! Wonder why that is? Anyway, cramming the media into the canister sounds easy enough, but there are bits of carbon in the cotton bag...

Switching from HOB filter to a canister

I was thinking it might be possibly to take the bio bags from the current filter (I have one large one meant for the filter, one meant for a 10g filter, and one meant specifically to hold bacteria also from a 10g size filter) and let them float freely in the tank, then just remove the HOB and...

Switching from HOB filter to a canister

I am switching from a topfin30 to a larger canister on my 40g freshwater tank. What is the safest way to go about this? I want to avoid any mini cycles and trouble

    10g Saltwater Tank Set Up

The HOB filter is a topfin30. It has a fairly large amount of space and is big enough to easily filter my freshwater 40g tank (which is where it is right now. I'm upgrading to a canister with higher filtration and the such from a friend for $30.00 but I need to get some internal pieces so he can...

    10g Saltwater Tank Set Up

I want some live sand, and I think I'll make a mini refugium, and how much live rock do you suppose I could fit in there? Do you think some live sand in panty hoes would be good to add? Why no crushed coral? I didn't want it, just curious is all

    10g Saltwater Tank Set Up

By emerald in your last paragraph, what's that? The snail I wanted or something? Oh and I definitely know to take it slow adding the critters, I think I want the two fire fish mated pair :)

    10g Saltwater Tank Set Up

Don't forget my question on the post just before this one guys!!! I was looking at these polyp things, and on tanked (love that show, I want a big one like those guys make!) they had some very brightly colored guys like this: Except prettier and some mushroom guys like this: Except neon...

    10g Saltwater Tank Set Up

I have split the water temp before safely with fish, at least in freshwater, and it's gone quite well. The idea is to add 1 degree of temp every day until you get high (or low) enough for the other inhabitants (within acceptable ranges, not like a 10-20 degree dif) then once the new inhabitants...

    10g Saltwater Tank Set Up

It looks like if I got that one then I don't need a heater for the tank, but how many would be a good idea? Like just one or maybe 2-3? And for the other inhabitants, will the low temp be safe?

    10g Saltwater Tank Set Up

If I got just 2 Catalina's, or two firefish, would that work? And then add the rest of the critters later? Which pair would be better, hardier, and the such? Google doesn't specify about that :/

    10g Saltwater Tank Set Up

Okay so fish would be just one firefish goby and then possibly one Catalina (need to do some extra HW on that part) I think I might get that blood red shrimp and 3 or 4 peppermint shrimp then a few snails or so, of the spiny ones I showed you all. I really want the peppermints, and as for the...

    10g Saltwater Tank Set Up

Alrighty guys, I just did some shrimp research, and so here's a few of my ideas for grouping the shrimp: 1.) one of these And a group of these 2.) one of these And a group of these 3.) or just a group of these Cost will definitely be an issue, but I'd still like some input on...

    10g Saltwater Tank Set Up

I'll do some research and see which would work better, for the lights I think there's a saltwater fish store I can get some great info and help, and cheaper prices than petco or petsmart. It's too bad that those two are my only resources for freshwater though —.—"" I have a healthy 40g...

    10g Saltwater Tank Set Up

Corals sound fun and my friend is gonna split two nems for me, so I'll need brighter lights. My lid sits on the tank itself and has a hole for the filter, so I'm not sure if I can really add more lights or just get brighter ones. It has sockets means for two incandescent bulbs and I've got those...
