    T Valve Question

You certainly can. I've done with before with dual outlet pumps so i could use both outlets on the same sponge filter.

Is it possible to run two filter pads?

Yes, it's possible. Depends on what type of filter you have. If there's room for an extra filter pad I would fill the extra space with biomedia instead. Then you can change the cartridge without saving the old one.

    activated carbon?

Unless your source water has a high concentration of dissolved organic compounds, then carbon is unnecessary. You should be doing water changes anyway, and water changes also remove the stuff carbon removes.

when using 2 filters, placement of each intake and outtake

I have my spray bars and intakes placed at opposite ends of the tank. This helps create optimal circulation. For your situation, I would place the intakes in the corners with the FX5 return in one corner and the cascade spray bar in the middle of the tank.

    Eheim Professional II?

Eheims can last a while before they need cleaning. I have a classic 2215 running on my 55g cichlid tank and clean it out every 3 months or when the water begins to slow. Look for a set up video on youtube. That should help since eheims can be tricky to set up if you've never used a canister...
