    velvet AGAIN

I plan on tearing down the whole tank. Nothing was the same except the substrate. New bio wheels, cartridges and I sterilized the filter. I've got about $120.00 in the substrate so I REALLY can't afford to toss it. Namaste, Gypsy

    sick guppy?

Mine did the same thing. Never showed ANY of the other reported signs but died anyway. I lost a few hundred dollars worth of guppies.

    velvet AGAIN

Several months ago I broke down my 55g and cleaned and medicated the tank. The only thing I didn't remove was the substrate. BIG MISTAKE. Now the velvet is back and I know it didn't come in on new fish because all that are in the tank are heathy babies I raised myself. This time I'm taking out...

    sick guppy?

I'm pretty sure she has velvet. I had a LOT of guppies die from it with NO SIGNS except rubbing on the plants. Get a medicine and do a large water change.

It's easiest if you just start out separating the females. The make WON'T have the gravis spot. Namaste, Gypsy

    Fish are FRIENDS, not expendable!

No, she hovers at the top of the tank wiggling her trail as if she were a hummingbird. When I put my hand over the water she jumps up and takes food out of my fingers. She really loves doing this with the thawed bloodworms. She's a character. I had a female jump out shortly after I got into...

    Fish are FRIENDS, not expendable!

Yes, my names are all based either on color or some sort of trait they display. I have a white and blue female crowntail whose name is "Jumper". I'm pretty sure you can figure out how she got her name. Namaste, Gypsy

    Guppy Breeding Log

I've been feeding freeze dried bloodworms. All I do is take a bit between my thumb and index finger, then rub them together to make a fine powder. I've never lost a baby. As they get a little older and larger I feed frozen baby brine, then regular brine and cut up frozen blood worms. During this...

    Fish are FRIENDS, not expendable!

Well, I have 58 bettas. It is just easier for me to keep records and remember what I may need to do with a certain tank, if the fish has a name. It's much easier than saying" the red betta needs water change and the blue betta needs a new plant etc. Especially when you may have multiples of a...

    SNAIL explosion

What I've been doing is crushing them and letting them drop to the bottom of the tank, my corys devour them. My peppered Cory comes to the front of the tank as soon as I turn the light on and swims back and forthquickly, she's figured out what comes next, and is ready for them to drop. She's...

    Fish are FRIENDS, not expendable!

I've seen posts, pro & con, on naming fish. I wonder if there is any correlation between being male or female on the desire to name fish. My son doesn't because every time he named one it died, so he stopped. I know he's lost fish since then, but he says he's not as attached to them when they...

    SNAIL explosion

No, they are mostly hidden during the hours the lights are on. The room I have the tank in is pitch black until I turn the lights on. They are just there from the night time hours, then they hide. Only to return when the lights go out at bedtime. Namaste, Gypsy

    SNAIL explosion

I've had trumpet snails in my 55g tank ever since I added the first "snail free" plant. No big deal, I've had babies now and then. Until yesterday, when I got up in the morning and turned the light on, there must have been at least 200 snails. The most unusual thing was that they were all...

    Fish are FRIENDS, not expendable!

phoenixkiller . . . . Understand that respect is not mutually transferred, the fish could care less about his keeper. (Save for Discus, lol) . . . . . I would also add goldfish & bettas to this list. Mine are VERY attentive to my presence. Namaste, Gypsy

    Betta breeding and color

I know type is easy enough to expect when breeding bettas, but how about color? Anyone have any insight into what to expect where color is concerned?

    Help betta breed!!!

I use a 12" chimney from a hurricane lamp to put my female in.. This way they both have swimming room and she stays safe until they both show they are ready to breed. It's also fun to watch them "dance around" with one another while they are courting.

Need quick reply how long shrimp can live in baggie?

Our Petsmart uses an air nozzle and adds it to the bag before sealing. Four hours will be fine.

    Fish are FRIENDS, not expendable!

I don't think I will have to resort to eating my bettas therefore they all have names. I have 54 of them and they ALL have distinct personalities or colors, that just beg for names.

    Goldfish growth rate

He/she's a character too. The tank is on a lowboy stand and he/she watches and follows the dogs as they wall past the tank. My make sheltie "plays" with her add well. One of these days I'll get a picture of the two of them. Just too cute for words.
