    Territiriality and memory- betta fish

Ok it sounds like he's never going to play nice with shrimp, so I will have to get him a nicer bowl to love in. Thanks for the advice!

    Territiriality and memory- betta fish

...was defending his turf from the "interlopers". I have two questions- Is it possible to return him to his tank and have him coexist with the new additions? And if so, How long should I keep him in a separate bowl before returning him?

    Territiriality and memory- betta fish

Hi I have a question about betta fish and territoriality. Two weeks ago, I had to remove me betta fish from his community tank after adding some Amano shrimps- he was acting aggressively towards them and trying to attack them. He has been in an isolated bowl since them. Since then, I have done...

    What are my snails doing?!?!

Looks like they're mating. I had some mystery snails that I had to separate to different tanks because the male wouldn't leave the female along. She would actually twist her shell around as if she was trying to shake him off. If you have another tank, I would suggest separating them to give them...

dojo loach slowly losing weight, food shoots out of gills

Hi people! I have a 29-gal tank 4 dojo loaches in it, along with some other fish. I got all four loaches when they were roughly the same size, through spaced out over a couple months. My oldest, and favorite loach, has grown very little over the last year, and is looking very thin throughout his...

    alge? on my decorations

Nerites are pretty decent algae cleaners, from my own experience go for the "spikey" ones, they are faster. I also have the striped ones but they are very slow--somebody online compared them to an elderly janitor who spends an hour polishing the same square of floor. Also if you can find a true...

    GREEN WATER! please help

Wow, that is an amazing before and after picture!! Yesterday, I just put a few willow stems into my tank that was slightly green after a 1/4 water change, it looks better but still is not as clear as I want it to be

    New planted shrimp tank

The mollies shouldn't bother midsize to adult shrimp, but if you want to have baby shrimp I would move the fish to another tank. Tiny baby shrimp are the perfect sized snack for a fish that size

    GREEN WATER! please help

I'm dealing with some green water myself, I've never heard of the willow trick before but I'm excited to try it

    New Gravel

I've never done a fishless cycle so I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think adding gravel now would interfere with cycling.

how flat does the surface under a glass tank need to be?

I'm going to be setting up an all-glass 8-gal Fluval Nano Shrimp tank this weekend. The tank is going to be on top of a wooden filing cabinet. When I press on it hard, the top of the cabinet has a little bit of give in the middle, so I will need to lay a board on top to add a little more...

    yellow shrimp dying off one-by-one

Ammonia is still high today (about .15) on the color chart, I'll do another 1/2 gall water change My "large" water changes were about a gallon on the 10-gall tank, I was using Prime and also the Fluval shrimp safe. I really need to upgrade my heater--I'm going to go to a fish swap meet next...

    yellow shrimp dying off one-by-one

I had another one die last week, for this one I had a clear problem with my ammonia so I'm not not going to count it as a mysterious dead like the others. Did a water change.

Amano Shrimp Yellow/White-ish bands...but not dead

Huh, I really don't know what that could be. Are there any other amanos in the tank that you can use for comparison? They should have a slight green/grey/blue transparent color

    Will he live?:(

Maybe add some stress coat into the tank? Mainly I would just let him rest in the tank undisturbed, and hope for the best.

    yellow shrimp dying off one-by-one

Wow, well, at least you're not the only one with this same problem. I did a small 1/2 gallon water last night, so far no more deaths. I am going to try to always wash my hands before I put them in the tank...however, I am worried that maybe I might be worsening the problem if I'm carrying even...

    yellow shrimp dying off one-by-one

I am going to try raising the temperature very slowly (it's one of those +/- knobs so I'm just cranking it a fraction). The heater is very old and I probably should replace it right away with something better.

    yellow shrimp dying off one-by-one

It is possible that I could have contaminated it with something else on my hands, especially when I'm diving my hand in to grab some pond snails. I started a (small) water change just in case, I'll try to do a couple small water changes over the next couple days, I'm a little leery of doing big...

    Tanks Mates for my shrimps

Endlers Livebearers are also supposed to be a good match. I can't personally say that they won't eat a tiny baby shrimp swimming through the water, haven't had any shrimp successfully breed in the tank with my endlers. You would not be able to find Endlers at a petco or petsmart. Maybe at a...

    yellow shrimp dying off one-by-one

No, I have not added any medicines or fertilizers to this tank. I use Prime, Shrimp Safe, and the fluval shrimp mineral suppliment during water changes. Last water change/addition was the previous weekend (had a shrimp die that night, even though water was room temperature and had Prime added).

    Missing Kuhli!

Definitely could be inside the moss ball, inside the filter, or if you have an undergravel filter it could be down in that. I have four in my 30-gal tank, and I count it good if I can see two of them pop out during feeding time. They spend most of their time hiding in the giant driftwood stump.

help! what is this thing in my tank?

Okay, just be careful, if you are going to let them hatch you are going to have to do something with the babies, otherwise you will end up with more snails than you know what to do with. And yes, I have heard that clown loaches love to eat snails, but I haven't had any problems with my kuhli...

    yellow shrimp dying off one-by-one

Hi, I have a 10-gal planted tank (set up in december, substrate replaced with EcoComplete in February) with a sponge filter, LED lighting, driftwood and live plants. The tank has 3 amano shrimp, ~10-12 yellow shrimp, and several Endlers Livebearers that just had their first crop of babies. Also...

    Poor cory :(

Sorry to hear that. I had a cory that lived to be several years old, he developed a tumor-looking thing in his mouth, I performed some simple surgery on it a couple of times so that he could still eat through his mouth but I ended up putting him in the freezer too since he was suffering.

    Shrimp!

I've been told that the red cherries and the yellow sakuras are the same species (I heard that the word sakura is japanese for "cherry" not sure how true it is). Both are pretty hardy, and you can look for ones that are really brightly colored. I don't know anything about the mandarin ones you...
