I want to re-scape my african tank. I was thinking about using Lava rock. My question is there a specific type for tanks or is it all pretty much the same. Will it affect my Ph? And finally should I silicone it together or leave loose? I found this while looking around the web...

I was told and in my case it is true. If you look at their tails, the male will have spots from top to bottom. The female will only have spots halfway down. And when ready to spawn they both turn fire engine red. I bought 6 myself then the male eventualy killed off all but his partner.

Considering the impeller is the only moving part. I would look there first. make sure it's not bent and seated properly. Also check to for an air pocket. I myself have a 305 and sometimes I have to double check it's on, because it's that quiet.

I don't know, maybe I'm just cheap. 5 dollars for a little piece of foam is crazy.

In my pile of junk I actually found a piece of coarse foam about 1 inch around by 9 inches long. Fits in the hole perfectly. Now I just have to figure out where to get more. Does anyone know a cheap wholesale place for the filter foam, from what I see buying it by the piece can get expensive.
