Do a decent water change (50% or more) to get those trates down. Could be a mini cycle as your tank is overstocked and your bb probably wasn't able to catch up to the bioload. See if the clean water helps him. Make sure you treat your tap water with dechlorinator like prime. I don't know...

Mine do a great job :-) I feed algae wafers every so often and there is plenty of foods in my tank for them. Down side is I think my kuhlis have eaten all my shrimp :-/

She looks preggers to me too. But if she's only been in there with your male for two weeks she could have gotten pregnant before you got her and just not been showing.

What's the best time to dose excel? After lights on, lights off? Just before the lights go on? What's worked best for you guys? I want to hear experiences and alternatives, what's worked for you and what failed, trying to soak up as much info as possible.

That's just a common or striped dwarf, you can also get a flame or coral blue variety :-)

LOL no, I mean just smooth rocks, I use the vase ones too, after scrubbing them in treated water (dechlorinated with Prime). Basically any smooth, non porous rocks that don't bubble if you put vinegar on them. If you leave it out in the sun for 2-3 days you should see algae in there. I don't...

Yup, just get some clean river rocks, a tray with dechlorinated water in it, put the rocks in the tray and put the tray in the sun. Works a treat, but it can take a couple of days in some cases.

I leave my lights on for extra time when I want more algae.

Knowing that you don't need anything complicated for live plants would have been nice too now that I think of it....
