First time Aquapod user, setup question

Well, managed to use some Eheim filter tubing to connect the pump to the outlet and it seems to be working fine. I've got the water flow turned almost all the way down, not sure I'll need the other pump for a planted tank.... Now I just need to deal with the water chemistry before adding some...

First time Aquapod user, setup question

Ok, just picked up a 12 gallon Aquapod to do a small planted tank setup. Is there supposed to be some kind of tubing that runs from the pump to the outlet in the tank? Mine didn't come with that....and obviously with the pump just dangling down in the bottom, there isn't any water flow going...

    Golden Severum problem

Yeah, he ballooned up like that and passed in a weeks time, maybe a day or two more. Definitely not normal.... I'll have to remember the feeding tip, I like that idea. :)

    Golden Severum problem

Sad news today.... Yesterday afternoon I fed the fish a bit (still looking very bloated, possibly even more bloated), and also tried to give him some peas (he didn't eat at all, at least while I was watching). Changed out about 24 or so oz of the water he's in (its a small 1-2 gallon tank)...

    Golden Severum problem

Yes, he is eating, not a whole lot though. Got the water tested: ph was in the low 6 range (which is what it has almost always tested in this tank). Nitrates were present, but not too high at all. Ammonia was .5 or so. I've moved the bloated fish out to a quarantine tank--a 5 gallon I...

    Golden Severum problem

Update: fish is looking even larger/more bloated today. Should I add some more epsom salts, or wait another day or so before doing that. Going to attempt to get the water tested today or tomorrow if I can.... The water testing kit I have is definitely more than a year old....

    Golden Severum problem

Got the epson salts and added just under 50 tsp to the tank. Will see how this works out. I noticed on my water testing kit, its quite old. May be time for a new kit I think.... Didn't know if the results would be worth anything with chemicals that old, so didn't bother to test.

    Golden Severum problem

They are fed the same flakes they have always been fed (Tetramin brand I believe), as well as the occasional sprinkle of blood worms or dried/cubed worms. As for the epsom salts, will that harm the other fish? This is something I can add directly to the tank with everyone in it? Advice on...

    Golden Severum problem

No, nothing in their routine has changed since the addition of the electric yellows several months ago.

    Golden Severum problem

One of my Severums is looking a bit strange, to say the least. This first happened about a month or two ago. The sides of the fish swelled up quite large, on both sides. At first it made me think it was pregnant, but I never saw any eggs, and the swollen sides disappeared. Now, the swollen...

Well, I ended up getting two young Electric Yellow Cichlids. So far, they are doing well, and my Severums don't mind them at all. After getting them home, and in the tank, I found info about the different water condition recommendations. Hopefully I can find a happy medium in my tank for them...

    How often to feed?

I generally feed once a day, sometimes with a day off once a week or so....

Cool. I just did some searching on those varieties of cichlid, and according to a few sites there are many out there that are listed as "compatible" with the severums. My severums are still pretty small--not much larger than the tiger barbs I have, so adding other semi-aggressive smaller...

    moonlights for freshwater?

neilanh--any chance you have info for a wiring diagram at all? I was considering doing this myself, as like you mention, putting the LED's where you want is easier than having to deal with a couple square boxes.

Would those other cichlids get along with the Severums without a problem?

    moonlights for freshwater?

Does anyone out there have information regarding moonlights for freshwater tanks. Good idea, bad idea, doesn't matter at all? I'm considering some of Current USA's LED's (cheaper and expandable with their "linking" models) for my larger tank so that I can see what the pleco is up to at night...

Wow, sorry to hear about the tank!

Well, decided to change this tank up a little bit. Not sure if anyone can tell from the pics, but the water was quite full of tannins--very yellowed--so, I removed some of the older/cruddier wood that I had. I've also always liked plants, but never had much luck with them.... I decided to try...

    My first, second, tank

I'm not looking to make this on expensive, so it sounds like the oto's might be what I want.... Will be going fish shopping later today, so I'll see what I can find then. Thanks for the tips everyone! :) UPDATE!!!!! Well, just got back from one LFS....got two dwarf cory's, and 6 painted...

Thanks for the id on the cats! Do you think more barbs would get along with the tiger barbs I already have in there (not pictured)?

    My first, second, tank

gundy--those are live plants. I've never had great luck with live plants (fish always eat them and all), but figured I'd try it with this little tank and see how things go. Now that I've got a spare Eheim 2213 filter around, I'm trying to convince my wife we need a 30 gallon (or larger) in...

    My first, second, tank

I've got multiple tank syndrome for the first time. Starting small though. Decided to set up the 10 gallon I've had around for a while. Don't have fish in it yet, but planning to get some this weekend. We're considering some black skirt tetras or neon tetras and a small catfish or pleco...

Got the Eheim 2215 in and set up today--much more water flow, and more filtration too, which won't hurt. Here's a picture of the tank in question.... Here's a closer shot of the two catfish--any idea what kind they are? They haven't grown much since I got them, not that I'd be unhappy if...

Hello all, I've got a ~60 gallon tank currently that has a larger pleco (about 8" long), two smaller Golden Severum's (bought just recently when they were tiny, but they're growing fast), two tiger barbs, a single rainbow (~2"), and two smaller catfish (only about 1" each) in it. I'm looking...
