File fish. Cleaned ours right out.

    10 gallon starter

Don't waist your time with 10 gallon. No smaller than 55 if you want any options for what you will stick. Bigger is easier to maintain too.

    wanting to start a tank?

Go bigger. Ten gallons is harder to keep and you have very few options with fish etc. Bigger is better. I recommend no smaller than 55 gallon. You will eventually want bigger.

    Naso Tang

Agree with this!!! Do the 125 and you won't regret it. If space is not and issue you will get a lot more options with the 125. We have a 90 and 125 beside each other.

    how to introduce species?

Float your bag to acclimate to temp. Then remove a little water from the bag an add some tank water into the bag. Wait 15 mins and do it again. Do this three or four times and then add your fish or coral to the tank. DO NOT add the water from the bag it came in. BEST thing is to do this into a...

    Hair algae help!!

You can syphon out the hair algae when you water change if you are careful. Turn off the power heads and scrap the algae as you suction. +++ on the RODI water too. We had it ten times worse and the water changes made a huge difference. More frequent with RODI and suction as much out as you can...

    im new to aquariums

I would go straight for the 75 gallon. Especially if you want to do corals and fish. Much easier to maintain too. Bigger is better in this hobby.

    new anemone

We have a 90 gallon and both our clowns host the anemone. The size of tank you choose will depend on the type of clown you get. Do some research on line so you are already informed when you go to get it.

new "old guy" 55 gal sw startup....

Totally agree!! Damsels are devil fish. Will never get them again.

    Distilled water

    Buy an RO/DI unit.

    new anemone

Don't worry. We have two clowns that did not go near the anemone for several months and then, bang, one started and with in a couple weeks they are in it all the time. Some clowns just never do host either. Just their personality.

getting ready for my 230 gal!!

My advice would be to plan on some kind of coral in the future. FOWLR tanks are great but once you get into this hobby you WILL want some kind of coral eventually. Especially with that size if a tank. Go for lighting, etc that will allow for some corals and you won't end up buying stuff twice...

    bubble tip advice

Totally agree. They can, and will, will move. We got lucky. But we are going to try it again anyway. If it moves we'll just take the pot out. Worth a try for a $1.50 pot.

    Introducing anenome

Put it in a small terra-cotta pot, where you want it in the tank. Preferably with some flow in the area. Then put the anemone in the pot. Ours LOVES it and has never moved since we put it in there.

    bubble tip advice

My son and I used a small terra-cotta pot from the craft store. Put it where we wanted the anemone, put the little critter in there and he LOVES it. Has not moved, only grown. He stretches out and looks awesome. Can't figure out how to post a pic but it is definitely what we are doing in the...

Thinking of doing an 'odd ball' reef....

You should save your money and go straight for the 55. The stuff you get for the 10 won't work WHEN you upgrade, and believe me you WILL upgrade faster than you think, on the 55. Save buying stuff twice, save the money, and just the right stuff first. Been where you are and if I had known then...

    UV Sterilizers

Which brands are good, better, best? Looking for ease of install and use. Was looking at the Coralife Turbo Twist on line. Seems like a good one but want to speak with some people who are more experienced then we are. We have a 90 gallon with Fluval FX5 canister b

    New QT ??

We have a thirty gallon tank that we want to set up as a quarantine tank. We just have no idea how much stuff we need to put in it. We have a Fluval C4 HOB filter, and heater. Think we will need a power head or two but what else?

    Skeletor eel has an owie!!

Autocorrect is not my best friend :0) I am soaking food in garlic guard so I just need to take a chill pill myself and watch. One question... How bad will this Melafix mess with the water test results?

    Skeletor eel has an owie!!

Melafix said its reef safe. I just panicked and dose too soon I think. Eel is eating good so I'm going to just let things sit a few days. Still keep and eye on the eel and his wound. Would really like to avoid medicating anymore so...

    Skeletor eel has an owie!!

Okay. Did another water change, about 10%. And then panicked and did one dose of Melafix. Forgot to turn the skimmer off and it went nuts. We have an Abalone snail and I didn't think about wether it would hurt her or not. Skeletor eel is eating great and I am soaking the food in garlic guard...

Just did a 20% on Sunday but will do a smaller one tomorrow after work. Just don't want him to get infected. Should I medicate as a precaution and if so with what? I have Melafix...
