I just got some Dark Red Jungle Val. (Americana) that are suppose to turn red at the top. Maybe that's what you have.

Once in awhile I'll see a snail and if he is headed on the glass to the top of the tank, I wait and give him the finger. The fish love something besides flake food.

The fish will be fine but the slugs will try and steal the snail's shell at night!

How about putting a small LED light in your stand above the bio tray.

I would like a very large tank full of mermaids.

I think that filter does that when the pads need to be replaced or cleaned. The water gets directed between the two pads and in to the tank.
