    WOO HOO...I got a free 60 Gallon.

I came to work this AM and as I was getting ready, the other laborer I work with told me he saw a "big long" tank on the side of the road. I let him use my car to pick it up thinking that if it has a cracked glass or something, I could always repair it. He came back and it's a 60 gallon. As...

Need advice - Changing Gravel to Sand

I was surprised as well with all the waste and garbage in the gravel when I switched my 10 gallon from gravel to sand. I completely cleaned out the tank to do so and since it was a 10 gallon I just scrubbed it real clean before putting sand in there. What I did was use a solo cup. I scooped...

Preparin for a 20-30 gallon tank in october-december!

My philosophy is always: The Bigger, The Better. But when going big, it requires more work, and more money. You'll need better filters, substrate, Ect, but the beauty is always something worth seeing. I have 2 10 gallon tanks, and a 65 gallon tank. To be honest, I want something bigger.

Preparin for a 20-30 gallon tank in october-december!

The $1/gallon is a great deal. Of course it comes only with the tank and nothing else. But another thing you can try doing is going on Craigslist and find a good tank on there around your area. I browse Craigslist just to check prices and you'll be surprised on how good some deals are. You...

Need advice - Changing Gravel to Sand

Yes. Well I did. I just took out the turtle today and placed the turtle in a smaller tank since I will be getting an additional turtle tomorrow. As for the turtle being with the fish, (turtle is only a couple inches at most), and has not attacked my fish.

Need advice - Changing Gravel to Sand

 My fish are pretty much the same way. I have 1 turtle (baby painted turtle), 2 Koi, and 1 cichlid. I had 3 live plants in there along with a few soft plastic and silk plants and lets just say that I'm down to 2 Live plants now. I'll be buying a couple more later on. The fish doesn't...

    My Tap Water Is Terrible!!!!Help!!!!!

Those results are straight from the tap. After I do a water change, it gradually goes down. I do use Seacham Prime, which I believe helps, but also, after it goes down, my reading is on average as follows: Ammonia 0ppm Nitrite 0ppm Nitrate 40ppm PH 7.2-7.4

    My Tap Water Is Terrible!!!!Help!!!!!

Mine is actually city water. I used the API Master Test Kit, waited the 5 minutes to let everything settle, and checked. Needless to say, I don't actually drink the tap water. But I do shower in it.

    My Tap Water Is Terrible!!!!Help!!!!!

My levels are as followed: Ammonia: .5ppm Nitrite: 0ppm Nitrate: 0-5ppm (It was kind of in between) PH: 8.4 The only thing I do when I do a water change is that I add Prime and ReptiSafe (water conditioner). I know the Prime does well, but I add that as well. After a water change, I...

    Startup Questions

It all depends as it varies from person to person. When I bought a 10 gallon for a FREE turtle (I found it at work), I had to buy necessary things. I needed food, basking light, basking area, tank, water conditioner, gravel, heater, ect. Spent about $150 or so and was still missing a few...

    Sand

One thing I want to build is a custom shaped aquarium. Something like a long tank to a "tunnel" going to another tank. Not sure exactly what shape and what not but something not common and unique. That's a goal I'll start researching. As soon as I buy a decent house, I plan on building a...

    Sand

I was actually thinking about building my own as well but decided that I'll buy my tank and worry about a build later. I bought my 65 gallon tank, hood w/bulb, stand, under gravel filter, and some decor/plastic plants for around $200. I then bought: my filter (Marineland dual purpose magnum...

    No idea what I'm doing

What I do is fill my 5 gallon buckets (and I try feeling the water to try matching the temp of the water in the tank), then I dump the water from the buckets into the tank. When I'm done filling, I then add my chemicals to match the volume in the tank, not just what I added.

Not at all. Also I like the peacefulness it brings.

    Sand

I started my freshwater aquarium from a turtle I found while working in a creek. I ended up finding a baby painted turtle, bought a 10 gallon tank, and from there moved to a 65 gallon long. I now have 1 cichlid, 2 koi, and the one painted turtle. I've spent around $1k overall so far all...

    Some Advice Please

Definitely doesn't look pretty. But I ended up scrubbing everything down (all decor, plants, and glass) and everything is well at the moment. I recently bought a new light (Marineland Double Bright LED) which I should receive by Tuesday. I'm gonna end up using that one once I get it. Plus...

    No idea what I'm doing

The problem with places like Petco and Petsmart is that they're just a normal retail type of business that needs employees to stock products, assist consumers and all the typical stuff. They (Petco & Petsmart) do not addimantly seek knowledgable people for those positions. But there are people...

    No idea what I'm doing

One thing that I do is that I keep a log book of when I test my water. I record everything. Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, PH (if PH is real high, I record the PH High) With the API Master Test Kit, you get the chemicals to test everything I just mentioned, 4 test tubes, a manual, and a range...

    Some Advice Please

I know part of the reason of the diatoms is because of the light. Its still the stock light I got when I bought my tank from somebody. I could have easily replaced the bulb with something that would be more efficient, however, I thought it was in my best interest to buy a new hood all...

    Some Advice Please

I had to do a water change in which I completely scrubbed all the plants and glass of the diatoms. The tank is kind of next to a window, but it doesn't get much sunlight from it as my blinds are always down and the window is of my porch. Everything looks nice and beautiful at the moment, and...

    Some Advice Please

First of all, this is my first post although I have browsed here and there around the forums as it has great advice to follow. Now for the advice I seek. First off, I have a Magnum 350 Canister Filter. How can I go about cycling my tank using my canister filter to speed up the IN FISH...
