I have been out of the hobby for 5 years or so. I just purchased some new fish and a new filter to replace a broken one. Its the Aqueon quietflow 75. What are some cheap options for filter media to replace the manufacturer-supplied ones?

I never really looked at the bottom of my fish tank. Last night I did and there was so much alage on the bottom. Should i try to clean it off or leave it alone? The tank is next to windows.

I have tried replacing the whole top trim. I couldn't do it and gave up on that. I found a tank on the curb. Brought it home and tried taking the rim off. I ended up breaking it and don't even want to try doing that. I have no experience in it to do it with confidence of not making it worse.

If I was going to replace it, Im thinking my best option is a brand new one. Hoping petco has their $1 per gallon sale during BF that includes the 55 gallon size. What is the issue with making my own center brace to keep the glass from breaking?

Top bridge broken: Do I need to replace my 55 gallon tank? The frame around the tank looks to be intact. it is only the middle bridge that has snapped. Could I replace the middle bridge with something to hold up the hood and lights? Or is it completely unsafe and should I replace the whole tank?
