    Impulse buys

A pair of iridescent sharks that I was assured would be fine in my 29G for years before they needed to be put in a bigger tank. They tripled in length in a month at which point I knew I was in trouble...I was almost glad when I lost them in a ick outbreak. The first and last time I bought I...

Amethyist and other Gems in the Tank

Go for the amethyst the amount of iron in it is negligible. I WOULD NOT put the malachite in. Malachite is copper carbonate which will release copper into your water and it can affect the ph. Jade is a common name for either nephrite, a kind of amphibole or jadeite a type of pyroxene. If its...

New and made the mistake of listening to the shop

Congrats on the fry! Soon your going to have to be looking for new homes for some. Sometimes a local store will take them for store credit allowing the owner to reduce the costs of running their aquarium. The snails will decline on their own if you don't over feed. However, if there are so...

New and made the mistake of listening to the shop

Hey did you have someone feeding your tank while you were gone. cause it sounds like they were overfeeding; thus the snails. Snails are opportunistic breeders, no food no eggs. What type of snail are they? If your not sure grab a photo. I like snails in moderation and currently have four...

    New Filter

Any reason you can't run both filters in definitely? A lot of people recommend it invade one breaks. If your set on removing the old filter I'd go for a month to six weeks.

Beware Bettas and the Fluval Edge

What we are trying to say is that it is too small for more than one female.

Beware Bettas and the Fluval Edge

I haven't done much research on it but I was sure you needed at least a 20g to do a Betta sorority because of territorial issues. Correct me if I'm wrong on that. Many people keeping a Betta in the edge lower the water a bit so there is an air layer at the top of the tank. At least this is what...

    Should I do it?

Are you on an upper floor? You might want to talk to your landlord to make sure it's okay to have that weight on your flour.

75 Gallon Find on CL for 250.00!!

Beware of bulb type. You need different kelvin ratings for freshwater plants than for saltwater! If it's all LEDs you won't be able to change the bulbs easily to get the lights that are best for freshwater.

    Neons?

Okay so you have said you definitely want a gourami so let's start there. Blood Parrots: need much bigger tank than a 29g BNP: you could get away with one Cichlids: what kind? This is a HUGE family of fish with a vast array of different requirements Snails: again what kinds? Ghost Shrimp...

    Neons?

Why don't you makes list of the fish your lts has that you like and we can suggest which ones work. Otherwise we are playing darts in the dark. Also, ask the manager of your lfs if they'd order fish in for you that they don't normally stock. Another option is aquabids. If your in the USA...

What is proper way of cleaning internal filter with sponge ?

Just rince it out in used aquarium water or treated tap water. BB is really sticky so you won't loose that much and alot lives on your gravel, the surface of your filter decor ect.

What was your first freshwater aquarium plant?

A banana plant. I wish I could find them again. It was like having a tiny lily pad with weird roots in my tank.

Show off your ten gallon or smaller

There have been so many beautiful tanks! Here is a new one of mine. This is a 1.77 marina kit I got used and was using to grow java ferns from plantlets with out any stock. Then I ended up taking in and finding homes for a bunch of fish when their owner was moving away and couldn't take them...

Take a look at threadfin rainbows. They are pretty and unique little fish.

    is my stocking ok??

I was just checking the info I could find on this species and its stays fairly small (2.25") which is not much bigger than pandas. I think that you can get away with a group of them. I wouldn't go for more than 5. (The small varieties pygmy, hastatus, habrosus all stay under 1.5" which is why...

    Neons?

Maybe...IMO you'd need something bigger than a 29 if you want more tiger barbs. If you want the gouramy I'd pick a different schooling fish. Tiger barbs get large. Check out cherry barbs. They are pretty and aren't as boisterous as the tiger barbs.

    Good luck!

    Neons?

I wouldn't do tiger barbs with gouramy they tend to be fin nippers

What is proper way of cleaning internal filter with sponge ?

Your right I was thinking of a different type of internal. I had one like that where the top of the cartridge is removable to allow access to the sponges. I'd that the case for that one?

    is my stocking ok??

+1 You could look into one of the smaller corydoras varieties: panda, pygmy, hastatus or habrosus. Keep and eye on the interactions between the gouramy and the guppy. Sometimes gouramy can be nasty.

What is proper way of cleaning internal filter with sponge ?

The ones I've has I've just rinsed the cartridges regularly in tank water. I keep a close eye on the flow because I've found they loose flow more quickly than hob or canisters. If I see any reduction in flow I swish the cartridge. If you can replace the cartridge with sponge or filter floss...
