Starting to think about restarting the hobby ... SOAP

If you wash with bleach, you need to do final rinse in water with five times the prescribed amount of dechlorinator in it.

Anyone have stained test tubes? I have the fix.

The orange "stain" wipes off pretty easily, you just have to get in there to wipe.. pipe cleaners will work, or what I do is roll up a paper towel really skinny and use that :-)

    I cannot eat fish anymore...

    New tanks for my bettas

It's also wonderful seeing a Betta stretch his fins, so much Betta than in a cup. And wearing him stalk and catch his food.

    New tanks for my bettas

Hi, have you considered an apple snail or mystery snail? No issues with breeding. I have one, Kipling, in with my sexy guy, Augustus, and he/she is fascinating to watch zoom around the tank in the evening, I feed a quarter of an algae disc every evening to supplement the bits and pieces in the...

My second tank is finally up!

Occasionally he'll have a panic for a few seconds, but always finds it. The air there is also lovely and warm and moist which I've read they like.

My second tank is finally up!

My Fluval Edge 6g, after much deliberation and planning: My crowntail (?) Betta, named Augustus after Augustus Gloop in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. And many ancient kings and emperors. And Kipling the Mystery Snail named after Rudyard Kipling. And a brand of cakes. Tank is fully...

Questions about small kids and fish

My parents who live in semi-rural Queensland keep chooks (chickens for non-Aussies) and my boys often go up to visit Nanny and Grandad. They tend to get ageing chooks so they don't last long, they are also sometimes prey to neighbourhood dogs and the last time they visited one got eaten by a...

    Hi I'm Sam

Best thing to do is lots and lots of research, especially if you want to be a zoologist. Google reputable sites (ones by universities journals etc), borrow from the library, find out as much as you can, then when you think you know it all... start researching again!

Questions about small kids and fish

Truth is always best. I believe there's evidence that children who have come to terms with the death of a pet are better equipped to understand what it means when a friend or relative dies.

    Fluval edge for saltwater?

Thankyou :) but I've had two goldfish for three months ;) Maybe once my kids have left home (and take the goldies with them if they're still alive in ten years time :-/ ) and I have space for a bigger tank, then I'll branch out into saltwater. In the meantime I'll drop into our LFS saltwater...

    Fish in Cycle

Water changes water changes water changes! More of the same of what you're doing. It does look like your cycle is getting there, ammonia is on its way down and you have nitrates. 10ppm nitrAtes is really nothing to worry about. nor is Ph level (stable Ph is more important) But the NitrItes...
