    Tank Is Collapsing!!

Thanks for all of these tips and suggestions, everyone! After looking at a lot of threads and articles on dinoflagellate infestations, I'm going to black-out my tank for three days, see if that helps, repeat if necessary, and possibly use Fauna Marin's Ultra Algea X on the tank. I moved all of...

    Tank Is Collapsing!!

I have not tried that. The closest I've come to that is blasting the rocks with a powerhead right before doing a water change. That removes most of the algae, but it comes back so fast that I'm not sure even a thorough scrubbing would keep it from reappearing in full force in a few days...

    Tank Is Collapsing!!

Hi everyone, I've got a 28-gallon JBJ Nano Cube, which has been running for about 16 months. Back in March and April, I had some out-of-town interviews, and got very sloppy with water changes--I think I went three or four weeks without doing one. Mea culpa. Toward the end of that, I started...

Can't Get Ca, Mg, Alk Levels Up

Nope, I'm not using B-Ionic's magnesium product. Is it necessary to use it in addition to their two-part calcium/alkalinity product? The reason I ask is that I know the two-part stuff already has magnesium in it, and it seems like all three of my levels are similarly far from normal, rather than...

Can't Get Ca, Mg, Alk Levels Up

Hi there, reefers! I've had a 28-gallon nano going for about nine months, and have been slowly adding new frags to it (plus a new 2-inch maxima!). Recently I've been having a LOT of trouble keeping my calcium, magnesium, and alkalinity levels up. I use B-Ionic, and I'm now dosing 50 milliliters...

    Acropora Bleached OVERNIGHT

Hi all, I've got a bit of an emergency here! Background: I bought these two acropora frags (one yellow and one reddish) attached to the same rock about three months ago. All was well until a few weeks ago I noticed the yellow frag had some tips turning white. I thought this might just be new...

Chizer & Bunoi 67 Gallon Palace

Woo, thrilled that you're making a build thread for this tank—it's looking fantastic so far!! I can't wait to see how things progress. And I'm really happy you saw my comment on your nano thread—I keep going back to those pictures when I need some inspiration for my own nano. Keep the gorgeous...

    Some Kind of Clam?

Hi all, I had some Euphyllia that unfortunately got shredded by an emerald crab, but I left the skeleton in my tank afterward. A few weeks later, I noticed a section of the skeleton looked like it was "raised" a little bit--I thought it was flaking off or something and didn't pay too much...

How 'bout it, AquaSD? Some free frags for everyone on this thread for all the publicity we're giving you. :D

    Good Websites to Buy Coral?

Hey, thanks, everyone! I ended up buying about $300 of LPS and SPS from aquasd, and I'm really happy with the coral quality. I actually called them up two days after I placed my order online, and they were happy to change part of my order for me. The frags all look great, and they threw in a...

    Good Websites to Buy Coral?

Hi all, In the past I've only bought coral from my LFS, but their selection is a little limited, so I'm hoping to start purchasing online. But it's hard to tell which websites offer good quality and service. I've been browsing LiveAquaria.com and Bluezooaquatics.com a bit, but I was wondering...

Hey, thanks, Phranque! Glad to hear the lights will do the trick—that's a big relief! Next stop, SPS!

    LED Hood—Will it support SPS?

Oh, here's the hood I'm using. It's the "Professional," and its specs are at the bottom-right of the page: JBJ-USA Aquarium Products

    LED Hood—Will it support SPS?

Hi everyone, I've got an LED hood for my 28-gallon Nano Cube, and I wanted to get some opinions about whether the lighting it provides will be appropriate for LPS and SPS corals. It's got: 25 3-watt daylight LEDs at 1400 K 4 3-watt dawn/dusk lights at 466 nm 2 1-watt moonlights at 456 nm I'm...

    Pretty Sad...

Just ran across this article: Caribbean Coral Reefs Mostly Dead, IUCN Says – News Watch I know this isn't about aquariums or reef-keeping, but it seems pretty darn relevant to our hobby. I'm glad to hear that collecting specimens for aquariums isn't one of the reasons they listed for the...

ChizerBunoi - 24G JBJ Nano Cube reef journal

Hey, thanks so much for writing this journal on your Nano Cube. I got a 28-gallon one a few months ago, and I'm slowly trying to turn it into a heavily-"planted" aquarium like yours was. I just spent the last hour reading this thread and marveling at your amazing photos—honestly, I think you had...

    My new light project

Hey there, your LED setup looks great, as others have rightly said! I'm in a similar situation as you: I got a 28-gallon CF Quad a few months ago, and it's my first saltwater tank. I was wondering if you noticed a big improvement in your corals' health after switching to your LEDs. I had a...

    Frogspawn shriveling and dying—Oh, no!

Hey, thanks everybody! I'm going to buy a good RO/DI system and an LED hood for my tank. I'll ask my LFS to "babysit" the frogspawn until I get those in. This is a great forum—thanks to everyone who gave me advice and suggestions... I'll definitely back with more questions in the future, and...

Bulk Reef Supply Grouo Buy August 21

Hey, I'm in for the group buy, but I'm a new Aquarium Advice member and can't send private messages yet. Do you have an email address I can send you my info.? Or you could private message me, and hopefully I can respond. Thanks, bavass!

    Frogspawn shriveling and dying—Oh, no!

Okay, I really appreciate these responses. Thanks to all who are spending so much time helping a newbie... I'm actually shocked at how much better advice I'm getting on here than I get at my LFS. If I have a choice between halide and LED lighting, what might be some reasons for choosing one...

    Frogspawn shriveling and dying—Oh, no!

Hey, thanks for this advice. Here's the nano tank I have—compact fluorescents and all: 28 gallon Quad Nano Cube | JbjNanoCubes.com They market it as pretty much a self-contained mini-reef system; is that basically just false advertising, then? I had no idea these lights wouldn't be...

    Frogspawn shriveling and dying—Oh, no!

Hey, thanks for the great responses so far! To answer some of your questions: The frogspawn are currently in moderate flow, and I've been moving them between moderate and high flow areas in the tank to see what helped. When I first got the coral, it was a single branch splitting into 7 heads...

    Frogspawn shriveling and dying—Oh, no!

Hi all, I'm new to reef aquariums, and my frogspawn is the first LPS coral I've gotten (so it's important to me!). It looked great for the first two weeks or so—8 heads—but has since gone downhill. I first noticed the tentacles on two heads retracting gradually after I split the skeleton so it...
