Retested the 29 gallon tank water.... It's been 3.5-4 hours and test looks the same, ammonia possibly higher! Should I do another water change? This is frustrating and don't know how ammonia is even higher than before. I think I'm going to test the tap water to see its results, yes I did...

I just retested the water in both tanks. This is the 5 gallon. The nitrites now look like 0 and the ammonia looks around a 1? Should I changed 50 percent again?

We have that freshwater aquarium salt but another poster had said not to add it... so I should add it then? Will do. I changed the water in both of the tanks and I plan to re-test in another hour or two to see if it helped. (50% wc)

Tested the water in my 5 gallon Betta tank attached is an iPod photo. We are changing 50 percent of water after this post. I am excited to see the nitrites around. .25 ..., ammonia around 2.0. . Does this mean the cycle is starting to do something? Still 0 on nitrates.

Just was not sure if that was needed, to have plants. May go this weekend and get that, when buying my new water changer that I plan to buy. We used a water hose and a bucket to change the water the other day.

Is it okay to add a plant.. What kind would be good and also, does the bottom of the tank have to be sand? Both of my tanks... 5 gallon and 29 gallon have the very small rocks at bottom.

Good call not to buy fish in that store. It sounds like they are not a good fish store. Good luck with it..

I read somewhere that you could not change too much water, and it is a Betta fish. Isn't the bacteria grown in the filter and all that stuff? Not in the water? We did a 50 % and it was still dangerously high on the ammonia test, that's why we did it more.

Now that I figured out the test, yes I was doing it wrong... The 5 gallon tank tested way high on ammonia... like green near the 4 ppm.. we did a 50 % water change, and then it still tested a light green... did a 100 % water change and everything is fine again of course. I hope I got the water...

We tested the water in the tank(s) again. Everything looks ok but The Ammonia and Nitrate tests , the water remained clear.. shouldn't it show the palest yellow? This is the 2nd time that we have done it and its not even the yellow that would be the lowest reading. Nitrite changes color to...

    Hi newbie here

Very cool. I googled pictures of the different plecos mentioned and I like them. I did not know there were so many kinds. Looks like I will have some research to do to figure out which one I want.

    Pregnant guppy

I am new to this so hopefully others will reply. I would start now with setting up another tank and getting it cycled and ready for fish to possibly make it your nursery. I would bet you have to separate them so they don't become fish food. I also heard there's nets you can buy at petsmart...
