Moving a tank for the first time - Paranoid about leaks!

So, feasibly, if we can prevent the bags from breaking, we'd be OK? We're going to be moving approx. 50 fish, half of which are cichlids, so buckets could get a little overwhelming, not to mention messy.

    Moving...

The house is being used still. Actually, it's one of my husband's co-workers currently living in it. So we may be able to test it, not sure though. Also, is there a reason to use bags vs buckets for the move?

Moving a tank for the first time - Paranoid about leaks!

Is there a reason to use buckets vs bags for moving? We will be making a move to a house about 30 min away and have 3 tanks worth of fish to move, one of which is a cichlid move.

    Moving...

Thanks, Sambo. I tried searching "moving" but nothing was coming up. I wonder if my computer was just pinging it wrong.

    Moving...

Alright, we're looking to be moving in the next couple of months. What is going to be the best way to move our tanks? We have two large tanks (65gal community, 55gal mbuna cichlid) and the area we will be moving to is approximately 30min away. We have approximately 20 fish in each tank, and the...

    Questions, questions, questions...

If you plan on upgrading, you can give a hand at angelfish, but you would need to be upgrading fairly quickly. We got two angels at the size of a quarter in July/August and our remaining guy is now fairly large, so they grow pretty quickly. A gourami could be a nice addition, or if you wanted...

    Questions, questions, questions...

I agree with being in the tank. We are constantly in our tanks, rearranging stuff. I also tend to pick my daughter's betta up by hand to move him (he has made 3 tank changes since we moved in June, he keeps getting upgraded). Just comes with the territory of having a fish tank.

    Mini Bow Betta Tank

There are many things sold for pets that aren't good, recommended, healthy, etc. Just like stuff sold for people that's probably not the best for them (think McDonalds and junk food). You'll find lots of controversial opinions on a 1gal tank for bettas. It's better than a bowl, yes, but a 3 gal...

    Vegetables

I know our BN hides a lot, but she's in with Cichlids, so I don't blame her, but we feed her at night, after the others go to sleep, while she bulks up and gains confidence.

    Vegetables

Sometimes, turning the light off will help make sure the pleco gets food, depending on what type of pleco you have. Some are nocturnal. Our clown pleco is much happier to come out at night, although he is becoming braver and venturing out during the "day" but it is later in the evening when the...

    Ick, salt or no?

I would call that overkill. I have treated Ich in my tank with just heat. I thought I read the temp needs to be 88 though. Might want to double check.

    Moving a setup tank

I would think moving it on a plank would be OK? My guess is the weight of the gravel being unevenly distributed when you pick up a tank is what causes the seals to have a problem. No different than moving a tank on a stand somewhere, and I have slid my daughter's dresser with her filled 5gal...

    Mini Bow Betta Tank

I don't think a week-2 weeks is long enough for a tank to have cycled, especially since with the goldfish, the bacteria would have had to readjust from the massive waste-load of the goldfish. You could put a betta in there, but the tank would still need to re-cycle, I would think.

    Mini Bow Betta Tank

How long was the goldfish in it for it to be cycled from the fish?

    Cory Question

Thanks. Also, what's the most you'd suggest for my tank size and with the other bottom feeders I already have? I know minimum is 4-6 depending on the type of cory.

    Cory Question

Can you mix and match cory cats? Also, would I be able to add a school of them into our current community set up? 1 angelfish 5 tiger barbs 2 neon tetras 3 glo fish 3 fancy guppies 1 male neon dwarf grourami 3 ADF's 1 clown pleco 1 unknown/unnamed tetra I know we need to rebuild our schools...

    my 10 gallon setup!

Your common pleco is going to overload the 10gal quickly. They are huge waste producers and he is going to outgrow the tank pretty fast size-wise, too.

Do I need an aquarium stand?

I would think/wonder if it would be stressful on the fish to be down so low compared to everything else? Kind of like when you see fish in the wild in lakes or creeks, how they swim away when they notice shadows from above. Also, would it be easier for dust/dirt to get into tank, even with the lid?

    Angels with tiger barbs

It's hit our miss. I've housed tigers with angels with no problems, but we've also always added the tigers after the angels have had a change to grow some, and when the tigers were fairly small.

    Moving a setup tank

Yeah, that's what it is. They will sometimes give them to you, other times sell them for like .10 a bag.

    Moving a setup tank

Depending on your LFS, you can get bags from them to move the fish in. Drain the tank, keep as much of the decor/subrstrate submerged in tank water as you can in buckets, as well as filter media. Set up the tank ASAP in your home.
