    Biocube hood Problems

Are you saying the SilentX fans are of poor design or the stock fans? The SilentX fans won't make your tank run any cooler than the stock fans but they will run a lot quieter. The biocube 14 uses 50mm case fans, search on newegg. The stock fans are 2 wire while most case fans will be 3 wire...

    investing in ro unit

Check out spectrapure as well. They sell a refurbished unit for 125 about, normally 190. I just received mine and the thing is brand new. Best value for ro/di units as far as I'm concerned.

    Biocube hood Problems

Are you replacing them with the stock fans? If so get some SilentX fans. They are a direct replacement in the coralife version, if you have the oceanic biocube I believe you will need to purchase longer screws. I replaced my fans with the SilentX and they are almost completely silent. You can...

    Which RO/DI unit to buy??

I've using distilled water in my biocube for about 6 months now. No major issues as of yet, some algae breakouts here and there But I'm ready to get an ro/di unit. I've been looking at the spectapure 90gpd refurb unit for $125 and the bulk reef supply value system for $130. The seem pretty...

    RO/DI water from LFS

Maybe a stupid question but... I've been using distilled water in my biocube for about 6 months, but thought I would try the RO/DI water from the LFS since everyone tells my how much better it is. Anywho... I got it home and cracked open the jug and it smells like... well... aquarium water...

    Coraline Algae growth

I've had a biocube 29 set up for a little under 6 months now and everything is going well. 1 Clown, 1 sixline, 1 yellow watchman goby with a pistol shrimp. 1 Duncan coral and 1 blastomossa coral. Coraline algae had started growing nicely on all of the rocks but I am starting to notice that the...

    What algae is this??

Yes. I rinse with distilled water and drain. I usually rinse twice unless I'm in a hurry. I should add that I use distilled water for my top offs and salt mix. I live in an apt and have no where to add a ro/di. I know distilled isn't preferred but it does register only 0-1 tds so it shouldn't...

    What algae is this??

The tank is a 29g biocube. I've been doing weekly 4 gallon water changes. I read no ammonia or nitrites, and low nitrate...always under 5ppm. I don't have a test for phosphates but will get one soon I run a media basket in the back with chemi pure elite and purigen. 2 fish at the moment, 1...

    Clown has gone missing

I woke up yesterday morning to discover one of my clowns has disappeared without a trace. After tearing apart the tank I've determined he died sometime in the night and my nessarius snails made short work of the body. The two clowns had been in the tank for about three months and were looking...

    What is this guy?

He was spitting eggs and semen...it was spawning. If you have a healthy tank you should start to see a bunch of little baby snails

    Drs Foster Smith Refractometer

Hi, I've been considering the Drs Foster Smith Portable refractometer, does anyone have experience with this one? How does it compare to more expensive models? I tried to do some googling but I can't seem to find a brand name. Drs foster smith also sells a VitalSine refractometer but is...

    New 10G nano build

My guess would be stomatella snail. They look like a snail that crawled from their shell.

    Sea cucumber?

Probably a stomatella snail. They actually do have shells but they are very small and flat, looks like a large scale. Google image and see if it looks similar. They are pretty cool, beneficial from what I've read.

    Something puffing out white bubbles?

I didn't mean to sound like a jerk. More of a dig on myself clearly posting a awful description. Anywho. This thing is pretty cool, he looks like a snail that has crawled out of his shell

    quarantine tank

I'm new to the hobby but have ready many places how important it is to quarantine fish before adding to your tank. I only have a 29g biocube but I went ahead and got the supplies to set up a 10 gallon quarantine Small heater, sponge with air pump for filtration, thermometer and small light. I...

    Something puffing out white bubbles?

Well judging by the zero comments, nobody is that interested... But. I have determined this creature to be a stomatella snail. It was spawning, shooting its eggs all over the place.

Adding a fish to two clowns

I have a new tank with 2 ocelaris clowns. They've been in there about a month and the larger of the two is getting very aggressive. If I have to put my hand in the tank for whatever reason she freaks out and nips at me. I'm wondering if it will be on to add new fish to this tank. I would like...

    Something puffing out white bubbles?

Very strange... I witnessed something crawl out of one of my rocks and puff out these white bubbles. I know pictures help but i was so enthralled watching this odd creature I forgot to whip out my phone before it slithered back in to the rock. I don't know how to describe it...Looked like a tube...

    Steve's vs. Rapid LEDs

Convict, I think your setup looks great but I don't think it's for me. I like the idea that these kits go in to the hood with little or no modifications to the hood. It's also $400.00 compared to $250.00. It is a great looking setup though so I won't completely rule it out. Thanks
