What temperature should the water be

Same here. My tank starts at 78 and if my apartment is warm may hit 80. I've never had issues personally

What temperature should the water be

some fluctuation is ok. Mike Poletta has an interesting idea about that. He likes it because it allows his corals to to be more "hardy" in case something goes wrong like a stuck heater, power outage, etc.

    Macro algea dying?

Well I got most of the dead parts out. Definitely Still some green in there. Chalking this one up to a temp swing I had due to my ATO getting stuck and having to grab cold RO water to stabilize specific gravity (I added the fresh water to the sump) hoping that was all it was

    Macro algea dying?

definitly cheeto. But it's just the main "ball" that I had in there floating around so it's all mixed. Could the shock of having more light be enough to do this? It was pretty dense before I cleaned our the refugium

    Macro algea dying?

calerpa and cheeto, also some red stuff that I can't remember the name to

    Macro algea dying?

Hey all, Only been on the saltwater side of this hobby for just under two years so this may be dumb but I just haven't seen it before. Tonight a large portion of my macro algae has turned white. Wondering what could be causing this. About 1 1/2 weeks ago I had a surplus in my refugium (in...

    Clowns

You're not alone. I had a nice (and expensive) pair of clowns and I came home to one of them carpet surfing. Took me a few months to mate the remaining again. I'm still going screen less but it's a good idea to get one. It's all about the chance you're willing to take

    2 Spare 10 Gallons

I'm in the same boat as most that if you can drill you should. However, if you're really looking to be super low budget there are videos on the ol YouTube about making an overflow out of nothing but PVC. Super cheap and it looks pretty effective http://youtu.be/65yVr7DiDls

    Kole tang

A video would help but my yellow tang used to do something similar to what your describing b/c of its reflection

    Clown vs ricoridea

I'm not saying your wrong but what were their sizes. I have some decent size ricordias and I can't imagine them eating any fish

    Lost an invert acclimating it

It's awesome you have such experience. Again, never said anything to debunk the method that most if us use (due to years if trial and error of hobbyists before us) just was pointing out something interesting in relation to the point. Here is a company that uses it's aquaculture practices to...

    Lost an invert acclimating it

I understand the correlation. My point was that I was shocked that they asked to not put ones display tank water into their bags (voided their warranty). This was new to me b/c up until now I had always acclimated as was described above. Really just pointing out something new to me on the subject.

    Lost an invert acclimating it

Most of the time (probably almost all of the time). But I did want to point out something that I just learned. I recently bought a CUC package from ReefCleaners and they want you to through their inverts into your system after only acclimating the water temp. Apparently they raise their...

    Kole Tang not eating

Just wanted to say he's eating now. He seems to have a thing for algae wafers. Will try to ween him onto out her foods in a bit just so it'll have variety but for now I'm just happy it's feeding :)

    Toadstool not polyping

Probably not this. But if it is new to the tank and the parameters like salinity are changing it might still just be acclimating. With corals you a want to shoot for consistent measurements and if it was introduced at lets say 1.024 and now it's lower it might just need some time to adjust

    Toadstool not polyping

My toadstool's shedding period has been as long as two weeks before. I wouldn't worry just yet. Especially because you've moved it a few times. What did your parameters come out as?

    Snowflake Clownfish Spawning

    Awesome! Good luck

    Kole Tang not eating

That's an idea. But if he is I haven't seen it. 75 gallon: mated pair of clowns, flame angel, 6 line wrasse and cleaner shrimp. This brand doesn't have garlic I'll go get some and try maybe some red nori as well? I tried that on an old snail shell that was in the tank. I'll try again too...

    Kole Tang not eating

Hey all, I recently replaced my Yellow Tang with a small Kole Tang (maybe 2 weeks ago) and I have yet to see him eat. I have tried multiple meaty meals in conjunction with "Julian Springs Sea Veggies" and some emerald entree veggie based foods. The fish is very skittish. It picks on my rocks...

    Moving Fish Tank

I understand why people are saying this and I know the "dangers". I just wanted to share my experience in this. I had a 120 where the front pane began to fall off. In an emergency I had to move it into a 75. I pumped the water out, scooped the sand and re placed it into the new tank. Granted...

    Hanna ph tester

I've never used strips. I was told to stay away from them due to inaccuracies. May not be true but so far my test kits seem pretty easy to read so I'm not complaining.

on again off again cloudy water

+1 my tank is crystal clear and I owe a huge part of it to my uv sterilizer

    First time to have lionfish

I had a dwarf fuzzy. Loved him. I'm under the school of thought where you try to match the fish's natural feeding state. Lion fish have slow metabolisms so feeding once every 3-4 days is what I did. Mine ate frozen from the start. The big thing is to mix up their diet. Lock jaw comes from a non...
