    Finally! First SW Journal

Oh! Also, would the stock lighting on an Evolve be enough to sustain softies?

    Finally! First SW Journal

I've been trying to convince my husband forever to let me start a saltwater tank. I have a 20 gallon freshwater, a 2.5 gallon betta, and a 4 gallon red cherry shrimp tank, but I LOVE the idea of having a pico reef. For Valentine's my husband said I can finally start my SW tank! WooHoo! I...

    Pico Reef Question

I've decided to get either the aqueon evolve 2 or 4 to build my pico reef. I want to do some really basic corals that would be very easy to take care of. What do you suggest? Would the stock lighting in the evolve be sufficient to care for them?

    Good news and bad news...

Good news: my cherry shrimp finally had some babies! I see lots of cute little tiny shrimp swimming around my tank. Bad news: I have noticed some small, teeny tiny baby snails, which is weird because I haven't introduced any new plants in several months... How do I get rid of the baby...

Want a betta at work... lowest tech setup possible?

I'll be honest with you (and I'm probably going to catch a lot of heck here), but I have a 2.5 gallon with a betta. I feed him 4 pellets every other day. He does not produce a lot of waste. I do pwc once a week or once every other week by scooping water with a cup and have YET to have to...

    Goldfish not doing well...

I know it's overwhelming, but one other piece of advice (that will also save you money) is that I never replace my filter. Your filter has all of the good bacteria on it that you want, so getting a new filter takes away all of the good bacteria. If it gets dirty, put some water from your tank...

My husband is going to kill me... pico journal

That's excellent. On Craigslist, this guys has the nanocube (it says 29 gallon but I think he means 28) with the stand and 15 pounds of live rock all for $100. That sounds like an insanely good deal to me. Am I wrong? I hope he still has it...

My husband is going to kill me... pico journal

If I got a 29gallon jbj nano cube, would I need a skimmer, or could I still get away with just a filter and power head?

If money was not an object, would you prefer a biocube or an aqueon evolve?

    Which is better?

I'm about to start my pico reef and I have $100 for the tank. I am between the aqueon evolve 8 (brand new) for $89, a used 8 gallon biocube for $85, or a used biocube 14 for $100. Which would you get? Or if not these, what?

My husband is going to kill me... pico journal

Small update: I'm still DYING to so a saltwater tank (and my hubby is finally starting to consent a bit). I still have not decided on a tank or whether I'm going to buy or build one, but I got my sand tonight. I got sand from my local beach. I've heard lots of cons about doing this, but the...

    Beach sand?

Ok, I really really want to start a saltwater tank! Ice been doing a lot of research, and have started a journal, though I don't even have a tank yet. One question I have is about sand. I have read different things about this topic. I live really close to a beach with beautiful white sand...

    Black shrimp???

One of my red cherry shrimp is almost black. What could be wrong with it?

Why are my cories doing this?

Mine used to do that too, but after a year have mellowed out. Mine do stay mostly on the bottom now except when they dart up real fast to the top. I have one Cory that I named "scuttle" because he used to scuttle around everywhere

    Doing Something Wrong?

It may not be the right thing to do, but when I got my betta tank, I filled part with water from my big tank and part with conditioned new water.

    3 Gallon stock?

If I started a 3 gallon pico reef, what could I stock it with? I know my options are limited with fish if I could get any at all, but if you were stocking a 3 gallon, what would you put in it? (Shrimp, snails, starfish, gobies, etc.????) Any ideas are welcome

    Ram stopped eating...help!

Man, I'm so sorry :( Idk what could've happened (I'm still kind of a newbie), but I think I read one time that rams only live around 2 years. That's why I asked age, but I'm not sure if that's true or not. I hope not, because I just bought my first ram yesterday. I'm so sorry for your loss...

    How tough are they?

Well, I got my Mickey Mouse Platy (named Mickey Mouse.... Original, I know) from Walmart (horrible, but my only choice unless I drive 35 minutes to PetSmart). When I went to get it, the regular fish guy was not there, so a lady netted him out for me. While she was putting it in the bag, she...
