    predatory conchs?

I have 2 fighting conchs in my 75g. On at least 4 occasions I've seen them eating my astrea snails. Are they eating snails that couldn't right themselves and died, or are they killing them?

3 Purple urchins for trade or cost of shipping

My LFS isn't interested. I would like to find them a good home. I guess I could try the not so LFS, but I don't do much business there.

3 Purple urchins for trade or cost of shipping

I have 3 good sized purple urchins. I was hoping maybe someone would send me a frag or something in exchange for any or all of them. I would also be willing to give them away if you pay the shipping. Their bodies are about the size of a quarter, not including spines.

All fish dead overnight, inverts fine.

Definitely a possibility I hadn't considered. My dad does do some auto body work. I'll have to ask him about that.

All fish dead overnight, inverts fine.

This is what confused me. If it were a fish disease why would the sally lightfoot die? This is what led me to first suspect heater failure or stray current. Still haven't figured this one out.

All fish dead overnight, inverts fine.

Ammonia and nitrite 0. Nitrate not tested. PH 8.2. Topoff when necessary, w/c 5g every other week. RO water, salinity 1.024 with hydrometer. Temperature was adjusted to match tank water. Again, I can't think of any reason that this particular wc would have caused any dramatic swings, especially...

All fish dead overnight, inverts fine.

My dad has a 33 long with a golden headed sleeper, lawnmower blenny, clown goby, wheeler's goby some corals, hermits, snails etc. He woke up this morning to find 3 fish and a sally lightfoot dead. The corals, featherduster, hemits and snails are all fine. Also, the pistol shrimp and goby pair...

LFS had a flower anemone... does anyone have one of these?

I have 2. I bought the first one about 9 months ago and it's doing great. When I got it it was brownish-red like a mushroom and about 2-2.5 inches across. It' now about 4" and has taken on a beautiful greenish blue color. It really looks nice under moonlight. It has hosted an anemone shrimp and...

    adding 40w to 260w actinic/12K, what color?

I currently have 260w of PC consisting of 2 65w actinic and 2 65w 12K. I still have the original single bulb NO fixture that came with the tank, I figure I might as well use it. What color bulb would you add to this combo. More actinic? 20K? Moonlight? 50/50? TIA.

    small moving spots on mushrooms

I recently purchased a nice assorted mushroom rock at the LFS. Several of the polyps have small reddish spots on them about the size of a match head. The other day I noticed they were actually raised bumps on the polyps and not part of the mushroom itself. I was amazed to see them move! They...

    what's dismembering my crabs?

I have a 42g hex w/ 2 false percs, lawnmower blenny, twin spot goby, bangaii cardinal, cleaner shrimp, emerald crab, sally lightfoot, and some snails and hermits. I recently noticed my emerald crab was down to 4 legs, 3 on one side and 1 on the other. Last night I noticed my sally lightfoot...

    low ro/di output. please help

Tried the warm water trick. That helped a little, but my basement is so cold that a 150w heater can't warm 5g of water sufficiently. I started off by filling the bucket with the hottest water I could get from the tap. I noticed my output increase after this, but the water won't stay warm. I...

RO/DI running slow? cold outside? Solution!

Yes, thank you. Sounds like low temp is probably to blame. The water around here is nowhere near 78 degrees even in summer. I will definitely try that. Very clever.

    low ro/di output. please help

I have checked water flow at every stage. The pressure seems acceptable until it reaches the ro membrane. The good water barely drips out while the rejection water flows fairly well. I have gone as far as disconnecting everything and just running through the ro filter with no noticeable change...

    low ro/di output. please help

I've had my 6 stage 125 gpd ro/di unit for a while now, and it just doesn't put out much water. We're talking like 1/2 gpd output here. It's the first thing in line when the cold water comes into the house, so I don't think it's a pressure issue. Now that I have 150 gal worth of tank water it...

ideal sand-sifter goby for a 38 gallon tank...

My twin spot goby turns over alot of sand. He cleared up my algae covered sand overnight. Very cool looking as well. They're also known as the 4 wheel drive goby because of their black ventral and anal fins.

reef safe way to make pvc black?

Thanks for the info. I can't seem to find any black pvc in my area. I found some info saying that sharpie and marks-a-lot are safe, so I decided to try that. I found that marks-a-lot works much better than sharpie. The wide tip covers more quickly, it adheres better to the smooth plastic of pvc...

reef safe way to make pvc black?

I am in the process of making a closed loop style spraybar for my 75g. Is there a reef safe way to color the pvc black? I heard somewhere about using a sharpie. Is it safe? I was also thinking about wrapping it with electrical tape. Any thoughts on this? Would it hold under water? Any other...

How to filter 200 gal. Would pond filter work?

My dad has a DIY tank that's about 200 gal. It' a big cube, about 3 ft on each side. What do you guys reccomend for filtration on a tank this size? Menards has a pond filter on sale for $129 that's rated for a 3000 gal pond. It's just a giant canister filter with a couple compartments for media...
