    electric blue hap?

Yeah, they do beat each other up pretty bad from time to time. Thank you all for the feedback, I'm pretty sure this guy is a blue dragon then. I couldn't figure out what he was!

    Bachelor tank for Rainbows?

I have 6 male celebes in my small tank currently, and have had no trouble with aggression. My LFS owner (who is a rainbow fanatic) told me he won't sell rainbows unless it's a 3:1 F/M ratio or all males. He showed me pics of his 75 gallon with probably 40 varied species (all male) that he says...

    Guppy attacking a platy??

Guppies in my opinion are great within a species tank, but they don't do well in community tanks. I've watched them terrorize other fish larger than themselves including black phantom tetras and bleeding hearts. I'll never have those little buggers in a community tank again.

    electric blue hap?

Is this an electric blue hap? I ask because it was a product of unauthorized breeding of some of my dragon bloods in my 75 gallon mixed tank. I have never heard of this being an offspring of dragon bloods. I'm not going to sell him, and he will live out his days in my tank. It's just weird to me.

    Filter down for hours

Thank you fishwonder for your reply. I did end up having a slight spike in nitrites at 3 days, did a few water changes, and a week later all is well. I did a 75% water change on Sunday 8/23, and today my parameters are completely back to normal. I was very worried because the rings had...

    90 gallon tank not level.

I agree with rlederer, a 90 gallon tank is approximately 950 pounds of water. That much pressure pushing unevenly against the seams of your tank could have catastrophic results.

by the way, I was able to prime the filters and they seem to be running fine.

    Filter down for hours

Hi all, long time absent. Hope everyone's been well. I have a big concern, and wonder if anyone has ideas... Today we were spray painting some immovable furniture near my tank, I had my wife turn off the air pump and hob filters on my 75 gal cichlid tank. I was at work when the job was...

    AC70 AND Penguin 200 on a 29?

you're welcome. Look into what fish you want the most, and build your stock around that species. Again, some community fish love higher water current, while others can't stand it. At least with the AC, you can adjust the flow, I don't use Penguins, so I can't comment on that one.

    Question about rainbows

I've kept rainbows, and I've mixed red irians, boesemanis, banded and turquoise. All the different varieties tend to school together as long as they are about the same size. I currently have 1 turquoise and 3 boesemanis in my 55, they seem happy and healthy. They are fast swimmers, and tend to...

    AC70 AND Penguin 200 on a 29?

It really depends on the fish you want to keep, some fish love the higher flow. Others, can't thrive with it. But you're right, more filtration for the most part equals cleaner water.

    Fry?

There's a couple of hybrids that are quite beautiful (Dragon Blood Peacocks come to mind) but they really shouldn't, imho, be sold as anything but a hybrid. I have no intention of muddying the waters of the cichlid trade :)

    Live plants vs plastic plants

I have plastic in my 55 gal community, only because the silver dollars destroyed everything I have ever tried to put in there. Literally stripped them down the the root crown within an hour. My harlequins like to dart in and out of the plants, so there is a use for plastic in some applications...

    New fish keep dying.

Ask for a sample of water without fish in it to test as the fish drastically can change the chemistry in a transport bag over a small amount of time.

    Cotton Mouth?

I used Furan 2 when I got it in my 55 a couple of years ago. I cleared it with 2 treatments a week apart. I also added an extra bubbler I had. I lost my entire school of harlequins and 1/2 my rainbows, but saved my silver dollars and dojo loaches (which are scaleless and I was most concerned...

    Fry?

Hey what do you guys do with the prolific production of fry? My Mbuna are crossbreeding, and producing on a regular basis now. I don't want to sell/donate them to a lfs, because I think most are hybrids. I've kept a few to replace some deaths that have occurred and have them in a grow out tank...

Could it be microbubbles from your filter discharge? Are you sure you purged all the air from the filter lines?

    African Cichlid Question

Agreed with driftwood dropping the pH. But it only slightly dropped mine, went from 8.2 to 8.0. I know a lot of people don't like driftwood in AC tanks, as it's not exactly prototypical but I like the look of it in mine. I've had it in there nearly a year without any problems, and the fish seem...

    silver dollar ID please

I agree it could be M. maculatus, but does it get orangey coloring when excited or scared? If so, it might be a M. Lippincottianus. I got 3 of them by accident when trying to replace my M. argenteus. An old fish keeper friend of mine told me the difference. They seem to be less skittish than my...

    Weird fry

I think I have a yellow lab/maingano fry. I was cleaning my tank on Sunday and found 1 fry who is about 3/4 inch now. Obviously I isolated him? but I have been trying to get him to eat crushed flakes. He's not taking any of it, I don't think he's nutritionally deprived, but how do I get him to...

PLEASE HELP! NO FILTER! Will my fish die?!

So glad for a great outcome! I would do several smaller water changes a couple of times a day rather than one big one, it'll stress your fish less, and help prevent a bacterial bloom.
