    Moving advice

Good point. Thanks for all the advice. It's a pain to move a tank. If worst comes to worst I can airate it by hand

    Moving advice

I have a power inverter in my jeep so I can easily plug in an air-stone. I was actually going to leave about 15% of the tank water in the tank when I move it so its not a complete drain. With that plus the water in the tote I think everything should be good.

    Moving advice

Good idea, ill pick up a tote. I was just going to drain the tank and put it in the back of my jeep. Put the fish in the tote in the front seat and keep the jeep nice and warm for the ride. As soon as I get to the new place fill the tank and put the fish back in.

    Moving advice

I'm moving an hour and a half away from where I currently live this weekend. I need to move my 55g. I have 5 small cichlids and a small butterfly pleco in the tank. Can someone give me some advice on how to move them safely. Is putting all the fish in a 5g bucket and draining most of the tank...

    tomocichla sieboldii

Was on a little trip yesterday and passed a huge aquarium store. They had a lot of rare fish. Anyway I picked up a tomocichla sieboldii. Beautiful fish. However there is very little info available on these guys. Anyone have and of these cichlids, know anything about them?

Oh wow, a lot more than I thought. Excellent Advice I really appreciate it! I will do some research.

    Firemouth aggression

Gotcha, great advice thank you. I guess the only other thing I'm curious about is for a 55g with 2 different paired species how many schooling fish would be appropriate? hypothetically since you mentioned it say black neons. I think I've read 6 make a school? That seems like a lot though for a 55g.

    Firemouth aggression

When you say stock a pair I take it you mean male and female. For example, male and female convict and a male and female fire mouth as a centerpiece.

    Firemouth aggression

I definitely like the t. Maculipinnis, don't know where I'd find one besides ordering online though. Now, as far as fully stocking the tank down the road I'm guessing its a better idea to get a couple of each species instead of one of these, one of those etc... Correct? When I find a species I...

    Firemouth aggression

Ok for the sake of argument say I have just a blue acara, butterfly pleco, and a convict. I know the convict is female, not sure what sex the acara is yet. It's a 55g tank with two aqua clear 110's. Where would you go from there stocking wise? Just looking for advice and different points of view.

    Firemouth aggression

I hear ya, thanks for the advice and Info. I usually do research before hand however I took the jewel because there was no where else for it to go so I figured I'd see how he would do. I'm definitely keeping the convict and acara. If I can find a home for the jewel I would probably let it go...

    Firemouth aggression

Yea I do, however I only took him to re-home for a friend. He was getting annihilated in a friends tank so I took him. He is the only African though and he has done fine in the tank despite it being set up for SA's.

    Firemouth aggression

I shouldn't be mixing Africans with South Americans though should I? I always thought that was a bad idea because of different water conditions.

    Firemouth aggression

I called the LFS today and they said they would exchange him if I wanted. He is definitely just out for blood. At this point the other fish can't even eat because he tries to kill them if they try to get food. Just not sure what to exchange him for. With a convict, blue acara, and a jewel what...

    post your cichlid setup here!

Nice, where did you get the rocks?

    Firemouth aggression

Yea it sucks, he's a beautiful fish but a total a hole. I think I'm going to give it a few days maybe add some hiding spots (I have plenty but more wouldn't hurt) if it doesn't get better, which I doubt it will the store will probably exchange him and if not ill find somewhere else to home him.

    Firemouth aggression

Well I'd rather not let it get that far. None of the other cichlids have torn fins or anything but he is relentless and chasing them all over the tank, bashes them when they get trapped behind a rock or in the corner.

    Wanted: Looking for driftwood

I'm looking for some nice driftwood for my 55g. Something that will provide some more hiding spots. Looking for real sinking driftwood that's seasoned for the tank.

    post your cichlid setup here!

55g SA tank. Probably don't need the bubbler since there are two aqua clear 110's on the tank. What do you think? Jewel Convict Blue acara Firemouth Butterfly pleco

    Firemouth aggression

I have a 55g with a convict, blue acara, a jewel, and a butterfly pleco. All has been well in the tank for a few months. I added a firemouth the other day, he is larger than the others but not by much. For the first few days he was fine but he has become downright nasty. Attacking everything in...

    Butterfly pleco and cichlids

Thanks guys. I think it will be a good addition. I take some pictures after I add it to the tank.

    Butterfly pleco and cichlids

Good to know, I've been looking for a smaller pleco to add to the tank. I just didn't want to see the butterfly get torn up. The 4 cichlids in the tank aren't very aggressive towards each other, actually they get along pretty well.

    Butterfly pleco and cichlids

I've got a chance to get a beautiful butterfly pleco next week. Right now I have a 55g with a blue acara, jewel, convict and firemouth. All 4 are about 2-3 inches. I'd like to add a butterfly pleco to the mix. This would be the last fish I'd out in the tank so it's not over crowded. Is it wise...

    Sick jewel

Looking at him today he has all the symptoms of bloat. I read I can treat the tank with clout. I don't have a quarantine tank so can I treat the entire 55g? There's only 2 other fish in it besides him. Thanks.
