I just a hudge hermit crab today. However, the pet store did not know what type of crab he was. I was wondering if anyone can help me out in this area. He is Red with white a blue dots all over him. Eye color is normal i guess...not yellow though I know that. He seems to be hinding in my LR...

yeah i just set it up like 2-3 months ago. I let it cycle with the raw shrimp...then I went aheaded and added tank cleaners to start off with.... how do i prevent diatoms? What are they?

I use crushed coral for my bed in my tank. I also have 2 turbo snails and 6 hermits. After about a week the crushed coral starts turning brown, is that normal?

Sorry to say everyone, but my snail was in fact dead. I came home from classes today and found my hermits eating him and he stunk. Not to worry though, I have to other snails in the tank and they are doing just fine.

yeah it does...I took him out of the tank to see if he reacted when i touched him, but he didnt. He is tightly closed. So I put him back in the tank to see if he will open up again. I thought he just might be really stressed out. If the hermits start to clean him up I will know to remove him...

I am using crushed coral in my 37 gallon tank. I was told that it really doesnt matter which to use..sand or coral. With the coral, it will need a little more attention with cleaning. So for that you would need good bottom feeders and a gravel cleaner. Crushed coral is also a little cheaper...

I think my turbo snail is dead. He is in his shell and there is a hard like covering in the shell. It is also green. At first I thought it was a hermit in in the snail shell but, its not. Is my turbo snail dead? How can you tell if snails are dead?

how long does the shrimp cycle take? is it ok that i have my protein skimmer on and running? i am also not keeping the lights on, is that ok too?

I was wondering if you need to do a water change during the shrimp cycle? I did a water change tonight. The article on here doesnt say anything about water changes during the cycle. Did I mess things up by doing a water change? It was only like 10%....nothing big.

Hi all, I am currently cycling my tank with a shrimp. The only change I have seen with the shrimp...is that the shell is thinner now then when i put it in the tank last night. How do I know, besides doing the water testing, if the shrimp is actually cycling the tank?
