"Land plants" are not recommended for aquarium use. Underwater they can decay and rot as they are not accustomed to the high waterlogged conditions. Some need the soil to dry between waterings. The plants needs must be considered. Even emergent aquatics have different growth underwater than...

Watched jewel tank from across room (won't come out if am near since the tank overhaul)
Fed tanks and noticed the female (crater) isn't eating. Wound might have affected ability.... won't let me see her up close....hides if I stand up. Worried...
Wish my floor would support that kind of tank!!! Wonderful project AND I commend you for doing research first. A mistake in that size a tank would be ultra disastrous in both labor AND cost to correct.

My Experience with root tabs is YES they will cloud the water for a bit. Also sounds like changing the lights may have cause a slight algae bloom which should also be short term. Kind of like a mini cycle (fert & light induced).

True but then I have collected rocks from my wet/bog/woodland behind the house. Of course I scrub them and soak them rinse well then dip in chlorine which I follow with dechlorinator. Again soak and scrub before adding to tank.
I never had any problem except algae eventually grows on them. But...
Or separate HUGE tanks for each!!!!! The last is for sure Jaguar and they get really really huge and are vicious but are wonderful in their own tank.... I had to rehome mine (two fry I was given) when they outgrew my largest tank!!! My floor wouldn't support anything more!!!
