    Lighting Ideas

I'm after thoughts on which lights to go with in a custom 2x2x1. Shallow square-both fish and corals.

Hey Abno, how's the tank going mate? I followed suit and upgraded the lights to a miniHD 500. Interested to hear/see how you're tracking. R

Hey guys-anyone have an idea as to what this hitchhiker star is?

Yeah seem like zoas. I have a few in my tank now too. Here's a latest update shot of our little setup. Things are great. Water parameters are perfect and everything is thriving. Since last, we've added a bubble tip anemone, more zoas, some blasto morphs, a decora gobey and a pair of clowns.

Yep-he looks like this from what I can gather.

I noticed what I thought to be a new 'shadow' in the tank this morning and then I watched it moved-I'm guessing its a nudibranch? It's hiding again now so can't post a pic but its jet black. Rounded edge, rectangular thing with two little feeler joeys on the front end. About 5cm long and 2.5cm...

Also- have lucked in greatly with the bit of LR holding the new mushrooms-there is a small colony of zoanthids growing and doing really well chuffed with the addition!

Still going strong! I'm now 4 weeks into the cycle and all my water testing is pointing to 'ready for fish'. My last addition was a nice little piece of coral with some blue and purple mushrooms which are thriving as good as my orange ones! Also added a small hammer head coral which is loving...

Hopefully a good sign of health in my (still early) setup-these guys are flourishing.

I like it! So that's the algae growing at the back there right? What power head are you using? Is that a Tunze?

Yes. That's what I'm into at the moment, although I'm 3 weeks behind you! Look forward to seeing them mate Ryan

Abno do u have any pics of your setup to date? Im still learning to navigate this app and I'd love to see how you're going after 4 weeks of cycling now?

It'll get higher because only the H2O evaporates-the dissolved ions remain-so salt levels in the water stay the same while H2O levels decrease, hence the subsequent higher level of salinity in the remaining aquarium water.

Yep happy with the Edge's design but everything I'm reading tells me that when rigging it as a marine tank the number one issue with keeping stock alive and healthy is the lack of adequate oxygen exchange. I've read a few guys have left about half and inch void to allow for a greater area of...

Abno-how much space are you intending on leaving in the top of your Edge? I've filled mine (but still early in initial cycle) and I am dubious as to how full I'll be able to keep it and still achieve adequate O2 exchange.

€250, wow! What did u end up getting then? We get worked with taxes on all imported specialist equipment here and I can get an aquaray 500 for £90- this is significantly cheaper than what I can get it for in Sydney. And yes, have Irish blood in me from way back the line. Born and bred...

    Fluval edge 46l marine

No! That's why I'm curious as to how your modification goes! I'll be purchasing from most likely the UK as I can't get anything remotely close to what I like for the Edge in Australia for under $300...

Hey guys, so I've finished my initial set up and have attached some photos of the progress. Appreciate the opinions on the lights too. Im curious to hear your thoughts on the void at the top-cognizant of the need for adequate o2 exchange-do u think I should fill a little more or take a little...

I really like the look of these - have you got it already? How did it fit?

Boodopora-nah mate, there are two separate cords. I run mine to a timed power pack with individual switches. In the four slots I have the filter, the lights, heater and then the Tunze. Timings for any of them is not an issue being of independent power sources.

Ok cool. My only concern with putting the sand in that way is the opening in the top of the Edge is quite small. I'll see how it goes though. Again-greatly appreciated! Will post photos as I progress! Any thoughts on positioning of the Tunze? I'm thinking hidden towards the back but higher in...

Hey guys. I've enjoyed reading this thread. I'm totally new to it all. A good friend is very knowledgable in all things home aquariums and he said to join here. Long story short, just bought my wife a 46L edge. She's loved clown fish her whole life so intention is to keep it simple with a...
